Adding another to the list of GHS musical spectaculars, the Choruses presented Rodgers and Hammer- stein's delightful Flower Drum Song, November 7-12. Six performances were given by the 125 member cast, ably directed by Mrs. Catherine Murphree, Mrs. Mary Elliot, and Mrs. Dorothy Reaves. Beautiful scenery, designed by Mrs. Helen Philpott and her art stu- dents, and authentic costumes, su- pervised by Mrs. Anna Eliott, added to the over-all success. Double casting of three parts per- mitted ten seniors to have stellar roles. Cathy Alvavez was captivating as Mei Li, Chad Reed was a show- stopping Wang Chi-Yang, Jacqui Karns was excellent as Linda Low, Tommy Lane and Larry Lipham were effective as Wang Ta and Steve Shepherd and Larry Mott were re- freshing as Sammy Wong. Evin Jones, Pat Bouleware, Karen Stack, Gary Nelson, Lynn Jones and Eddie Reid played minor roles very competently. ,www N.,

GHS excelled in Fine Arts this year. Many small groups performed before the student body and various community organizations. The lVlad- rigals, after designing their own col- orful costumes, upheld a reputation of beautiful singing. Before the Christmas holidays, GHS students viewed Christmas lVla- donna. Ably directed by lVlrs. Mary Elliott, the one-act play added a touching moment to the Christmas atmosphere. An array of clowns, ex- cellently made up by students, bright- ened the stage. The highlight of the spring was Arsenic and Old Lace. The old fav- orite was characterized by mystery, suspense and comedy. Throughout long rehearsal hours, Nlrs. Elliott in- terpreted each character for stu- dent actors and the finished presen- tations were big hits.
