'f ff WL- f X Q Nm 'if S I THE WARDRDDM if Les Doris gurls Early in the eighteenth century, there was a com- partmen aboard British ships and below the great cabin, called the wardrobe . It was used for storage of valuable articles taken from prizes. The officer's staterooms were near. When the wardrobe was empty and, particularly out- ward bound, the lieutenants met there for lounging and for meals. In time, the compartment was used entirely as an officer's messroom and the name was changed to wardroom. Such it was when the United States Navy came into being. On GAINARD, wardroom country is each officer's sea- going home, a home in which he can be proud to entertain his relatives and friends. It is also his club where he may gather with his fellow officers for moments of relaxation, such as a discussion of daily problems, a movie, radio, musical or TV program, or just a game of acey deucey over a cup of coffee. f x ,f , ,fix . u 1' ff? wil 5 43 , WMXW wf , 7 X ,' 'Q V MMM, Wfmwwfggrwwwk 9 1 Zi ff , M44 f I ff 1 ff' WMWQM I had mid watch lost week
