A SUPPLY DEPARTMENT Service to the sbip . . . the Supply Department Motto In today's modern Navy, Gainara' must be pre- pared to go to sea for a month and a half, on a mo- ments notice. Your Supply Department will keeppyou there, ready for any assignment. The Storekeepers see that we keep the right spare parts, and procure an average of over three hundred items monthly ranging from gaskets and seat covers to gun sights. The Com- missarymen insure that we have provisions for bal- anced meals for at least 45 days, but most important, try to put out the best meals in the United States Navy. Whether the galley is 130 degrees while in tropical waters or rolling in heavy seas, they are happy as long as the crew asks for seconds. The Stewards keep Gainara s Officers operating by providing excellent meals, neat clean quarters and a pleasant Word at the right time. The Disbursing Clerks pay us, and search through the manuals for new ways to give us more money. They are always helpful with advice on how to start a bank account or ready to give you a hand if you need a letter typed. The Ship's Servicemen run the Barber Shop those extra hours before an inspection, the Laundry around the clock, seven days a week when i,t's necessary and the Ship's Store. There are few men one Gainard who haven't MESSCOOKED and we all appreciate the morale effect of a neat, brightly shined messhall. Strangely though, there are few vol- ' unteers for this job. That's your Supply Department .... Tl1e'e'5 U button Thai dldnll break Service to the ship. CTbe above was written entirely by tlne Supply Officenj O f- YK

Tours to the French Alps and through the Riviera to Nice and Monoco were available daily. While the beaches were deserted in October, the night clubs were not,and an evening on the town included the 44 Club, The Casa- nova Bar, Le Nations, and a place referredto only as Tony'ls , Dinner at a sidewalk cafe was a must al- though occasional low temperatures proved discouraging. After an un- forgetable two weeks, the cruise continued with daily bits of oui, tres bon, and merci. W0 ,.,-- IQ.
