Many of us on our first trip were quite disappolnte not to see g ' CC y Sign on that massive rock. Proceeding directly to P1reaus,the seaport of Athens, we experienced' our first Vlediterranean moor, and spent two days in this historic city. Athens was our first liberty P0rt, and our last in the Mediterranean as we would sail directly from here to the Middle East for a six week deployment in the Red Sea and Persian Gulf area. ' ' ' h ' while others enjoyed Some of us went ashore and stayed 1n Pireaus, talking to t e natives, an excellent tour of Athens and the ancient Acropolis,built on the rock shelf high above the present Athens. There we visited such famous buildings as the Parthenon and Erecthion. Mixing education ' ' f th ancient Greek civilization. with pleasure, there are few of us who will ever forget the ruins 0 e
