My locker is already full Although we had known of our forthcoming Mediter- ranean deployment for many months, everything seemed to happen at the last moment. There were the stores, ordered long ago, now waiting on the piers. The doctor, normally a. very pleasant chap, turned into a sinister in- dividual who lurked at every corner with a long, sharp needle. Ammunition of all types, for our big guns, tor- pedoes and anti-submarine weapons, had to he loaded carefully aboard. The hours of loading turned into days which ran into nights, and then finally, we were ready. Those last minute telephone calls and tearful farewells were all that remained. k y K, .
