These intervening years have been full of diversified activities and have witnessed the establishing of an admirable set of traditions. During these historic years Gage Park has sent torth into the world many enthusiastic citizens of tomorrow. These men and women have reached greater heights in the world of today due largely to their cooperation with the educational guidance offered at Gage Park. We feel certain that today's students will go forth into the future with an earnest endeavor to succeed. Just as our school has progressed, we desire that you too will advance in wisdom and truth and will carry forth into the world the fine habits and knowledge which you have acquired at Gage. We sincerely hope that this year's ICARIAN will bring back many memories in years to come. To commemorate some of these activities, the lcarian stat? has developed, for this tenth anniversary number, the theme "Reflections in the Hour Glass." ' I .llzkx Fl'1l!lI't'.i' LSl!'!IrltyJl'1' This year marks the appointment of the capable Miss Frances Schaefer to the position of assistant principal. Among her respon- sibilities are the administering of tests, the interviewing of failing students, and many other jobs of a busy city high school. The Gage Park Owl beams with pride at the wonderful elticiency of Miss Schaefer. qui' CQ? ,dwg- ts,-pq -, ., 4 -, - 'rf ,'-1 1' f-' lu 1 '- V ,'.fr i Offlifi' Sv1'1'vfi1 l'l4L'.t' Indeed the school would be lost without the amazing eFficiency of the office sec- retaries who keep the oftice humming with their many duties. Throughout the day they type, file, mimeograph, answer the telephone and many inquiries of the students. These oftice secretaries are Aida Tol- bert, Katherine Spruner, and Marguerite Rolston. TINY Byyyflv- Patience and understanding are the characteristics which best describe H Miss Butler, girls' advisor at Gage Park. You may well understand why she must possess these when you learn that besides interviewing the stu- dents and arranging M. D, X.'s tor girls who cannot take gym or swim, Miss Butler confers with students when they are failing. llil- 'I' IQUHWN Mr. T. Benson is the boys' advisor at Gage Park. Also he checks daily A ' ' ' the attendance of each student in the school. All this is quite a iob, but Mr. Benson is very capably filling it. lI..i'.i' UF!! t' As placement manager at Gage Park, Miss Roche rates tops with the Owls. Her many tasks include those of gaining employment for graduates and students, placing graduates in college, and assisting the students in decid- ing their plans for the future. lf early programs are required in order to keep a job these are also secured by Miss Roche. First of all, the yearbook must be tentatively designed. Pictures must be taken of the various activities throughout the school year and identihed. The sketches and art work are gayly arranged in an attempt to construct artistic progress for our many readers. As soon as the captions, stories and art work are completed, they are sent 'r1rst to the engraver and later to the printer. Thereafter the presses begin to roll. The students of Gage Park High School who are interested in art as an extra- curricular activity let loose their artistic talents by ioining the Art Club sponsored by Miss Mary Cole. Not only do they dabble in oil paints, temperas, and transparent water colors, but these ambitious members also try their hand at diflerent types of craftwork. This past semester creative sculpturing, landscape and still life sketches, silk screen work, and the making of puppets was on the agenda. This club was organized for the sole purpose of giving Gage Park students what they really enjoy doing, imaginative and colorful artwork as well as realistic interpretations. Students of any grade level are invited to join in the fun of creating new and better ideas for this organization and at the same time enioy something that is worth while. The F 1QQ'f1f1'11g 026215 Climaxing five seasons of competition in the Central Section, the Gage Park Owls led by their new coach, Charles Kane, compiled the most impressive gridiron record in the history of our school. Losing only to Lindblom, the eventual City Champions, our Owls finished the season in second place with five victories, and one loss. We feel sure that Coach Kane, rounding out his first season at Gage Park, was highly pleased with the efforts and sportsmanship the players showed in every game. The start of the season saw our Owls engage Parker in a practice game. Paced by Bob Voruda and the charging Owl Linemen, our team downed Parker by a score of 20-12. Gage opened their League schedule with a win over highly rated Phillips. Led by Captain Ralph Gebert, who was named "Prep Player of the Week," the Owls defeated stubborn Phillips 26-19. An undermanned Farragut squad was easily defeated 38-7 as our Owls racked up their second Cen- tral Section win. Gage Park, paced by McDermed's pass receiving, and some hard running by the Owl backfield, de- feated our neighbor and rival Kelly 'l8'6. Our Owls won their fourth victory as they downed the DuSable eleven 21-6. Bob Voruda sparked Gage to their fifth straight win. Both line and backfield played excellently in preparation for the Lindblom game. The last game on our schedule was an encounter with Lindblom. Our Owls tallied first on McDermed's surprise catch of Gebert's pass. The score at the half was 6-6. Lindblom finally surged ahead with a touchdown in the third quarter, tallying twice more in the fourth period while Gage managed to score only once. Lindblom edged our Owls in a thrilling 24-T3 contest. i...Lu.i . z Lff' W f fQ 1 3 Rf!gfl!6'S LE-McDermed, G. 38 LT-Stromskc, P. 45 LG-Pronifes, B. 39 RG-Herrin, B. 32 Coach-Charles Kone RE-Heodtke, R. 24 RT-Motonovich, G. 25 QB-Gebert, R. 12 C-Repetny, J. 15 LH-Vorudcx, R. 22 FB-Rofcjko, R. 36 RH-Biocic, V. The season started when the Owls mighty nine won their first four league games. Among them was the exciting twelve inning conquest of the Eagles from Lindblom. The high-light of the game was the theft of home by Frank Payonk, bringing across the winning run. Our first disappointment of the season was our defeat by Dunbar 3-2. One of the most talked-about games of the season was the thrilling ten inning game with Harrison in which George Dvorak walloped a home run into center field scoring the one and only run ofthe game. Much of the team's success is due to the successful coaching of Paul Stanger and his helpful managers. TOP-G. Palelc, A. Kokas, H. Malinowslzi, C. Krblich, R. Maceialt, R. Bohr, G.
