Regaining Respect —i They were never alone. The fans, the parents, the faculty and students, the entire community watched every agonizing step toward the goal which they had set. There was heartache and pain followed by a cautious sense of optimism and then wild rejoicing when the final play was over. Their supporters again were there to hail the Tigers' victory with praise and applause. You see, this was not only a victory for the team, but also for their coaches, their fans, their classmates, and their city — Because of them, we all had a cham- pionship year.

Some have called it a magical season, others say it was only a fluke of luck. Some called them a Cinderella team — from rags to riches. These descriptions may apply, in part, but it was not magic or luck that brought the Gadsden High Tigers from a five game losing streak into the 5A state champion- ship. It was a combination of spirit, determination, drive, and pride that led the Tigers to the ultimate victory.
