Putting it Together: Building our Senior Float The building of Homecoming floats is one of the highlights of any school year. For Seniors, work began on our last float on Monday. September 23. 1985. We reported to the Hill Avenue Fire Station, our float headquarters, immediately after school. We first had to round up all of our materials used in previous years' floats such as tiger heads, float sides, etc. After all of that was assembled, work began in earnest. For the most part, work on our float proceeded smoothly. As our theme, we chose 'Tigers Draw First Blood. A tank with a Rambo Tiger in it was shooting down a scrawny panther. For special effects. a fire extinguisher provided smoke for the cannon. Most seniors came to float-building after 6:00 pm everyday. We had plenty of help and some of the seniors really got involved as a team. Thursday night was the most hectic of all. People were rushing around everywhere trying to finish up the float and get the fire station back in order. Late that night, we all quit and went home to catch a few hours sleep before morning. On Friday, we paused an hour to attend the Homecoming pep rally. After we got all fired up for our last Homecoming game, about 15 seniors went to finish last-minute details on the float before the parade. After our float was hitched to Matt Thomas' Jeep, we could all sit back and relax as the Homecoming Parade proceeded down Broad Street. Picture 1 — Randy Temple works hard to get the servor float finished on time Picture 2 — Paige Thomas and Beth Godfree stuff float sides. Picture 3 — April West. Beth Lindy. and Myra Devine smile despite the late hours of float building Picture 4 — John Beau be. Matt Thomas, and Todd Garrett rig-up a smoke system for the float. 26 Seniors
