CLASS OF ’61 Challenging New Frontiers”—As Sopho- mores the Class of ’61 entered G.H.S. as the largest class ever to enroll. Certain that our highest goals could be obtained, we faced the New Frontiers” open to us. Working diligently to produce an out- standing float our Sophomore year, we were more ambitious than experienced. Our float entitled Cremation of the Poets,” was sunk in its expert construction. Our great showing of the year came when we presented our exotic talent show Tropi- cal Dreamers.” The untiring efforts of our sponsors, Mrs. Cantrell and Miss Masters, boosted the ego of the cast. Excited at the thought of the royal Coro- nation Ball, we cheered Sandy Olson on as our class beauty. The New Frontier” of our Junior year tipped around to find us upperclassmen at last. With more experience we initiated our second year by winning the Blue Devil Contest. Toiling earnestly on our float, “Eat Em Up Tigers, our class encouraged the team to victory. Our extraordinary talent show, County Fair, U. S. A.,” exemplified the originality of our class. Once again, with high hopes and starry eyes, we watched Diane Miller, our class beauty, waltz through the Coronation Ball. As Seniors, we pioneered in New Frontiers” by exceeding all past goals in magazine sales with a total of $15,112.52. Tigers Strike Again” was the title deemed on our final class float. Our homecoming game found Carol Duke crowned as Homecoming Queen. Backstage Tryouts,” our climaxing talent show, walked away with top honors. Our unusual Valentine Program was acclaimed by everyone. Diane Miller again represented our class as beauty at the Corona- tion Ball. We were also exultant because Webb Sledge, our class president, was elected reigning monarch of G.H.S. Regardless of our willingness to work on any project at hand, we could never have succeeded without our challenging sponsors, Mrs. Luker and Mrs. Bullock, who worked with us through our memorable Junior and Senior years at Gadsden Senior Class Officers are: President, Webb Sledge; Vice President, Larry Keener; Secretary, Vicki Estes; Treasurer, Beason Campbell. The sponsors are Mrs. Luker and Mrs. Bullock. High. The efforts of the Seniors were well rewarded by the many honors and scholarships bestowed upon them during the Honor Assembly. At this time our class president, Webb Sledge, accepted the Class of the Year Award, which proves that We’re bigger, we’re better, we’re full of fun, we’re the Class of ’61.” 18
