 Jo’l£,VJOtcl Long ago the Greeks told the story of the Winged Horse, Pegasus,- how Pegasus was caught and tamed by Pallas Athena who gave him into the care of the Muses. When they told this story, the Greeks, linked the winged horse with learning. They said that learning brought wisdom and that with wisdom man rose on the wings of imagina- tion, as though lifted skyward by Pegasus, far above the world of ordinary things. Be- cause of this, because Pegasus was the special charge of the Muses, the inspiration of the Arts, the Greeks made the winged horse the swift steed of the poet, the symbol of song. The Crucible Staff presents this record of our school year to show that we too aspire to the heights and hope to rise on the wings of learning.
