Teachers Teachers. . . They come in assorted sizes. Weights, ages and sexes. They are found everywhere. Mothers and fathers expect miracles of them. Little ki ds adore them. Older boys and girls tolerate And sometimes ignore them, and Fortunately, heaven protects them. A teacher iS ' truth with chalk on his fingers. With a red pencil behind his ear And hope with a yardstick on his desk. A teacher must have the patience of a saint. The understanding of a Solomon, The energy of Paul Bunyan, The sense of fairness of a judge and Eyes in the back of his head. Nobody else is so early in the classroom And so late for supper. No one can cram into one day Six or eight notes, Mark papers, prepare next day ' s lessons Keep thirty students interested, Quiet and reasonably happy. And still keep on smiling. A teacher is a magnetic creature. They must attract all their students to learning. A teacher must like all students. Never let their own problems and worries Interfere with their teaching. Treat each student as an individual With thirty or more clamoring for their attention Keep good discipline without blowing their top, Smile when they would like to scream. Scream when they would like to smile And do with thirty young lives What a parent can ' t accomplish with three. BUT above all this, A teacher is HUMAN too. . .
