Craig Peters, Mr. Raymond W. Tubridy, Mr. Clarence Smith, Mr. Robert W. Gloman, Dr. Albert R. Feinbeg. Board. of Education The Board of Education of the Wilkes-Barre City School District is comprised of nine elected directors who sacrifice their valuable time and effort toward the betterment of our school system. The voters of Wilkes-Barre have reason to be proud of their choice. Mr. Allen E. Bacon Superintendent We are grateful to Mr. Bacon, the Man Who Came Back , for relinquishing all the ioys of retirement to administer the affairs of our school system this year. We give him our best wishes for a long and happy life in his second withdrawal from active duty. Mr. Walter C. Wood Assistant Superintendent Our city school district is proud and happy to have Mr. Wood as our new superintendent of schools, but we at GAR are especially proud because we claim him as one of our own . Mr. Wood spent many years as a teacher and then as the assistant principal of GAR. Welcome home any time, Mr. Wood! MR. VICTOR F. BAIZ Principal Our esteemed principal, Mr. V. F. Baiz, who this year completes his fifth year as head of GAR, has always been a loyal friend and understanding advisor to the students of our school. His unbounded interest and enthusiasm has been an in- centive to us all. MR. CHARLES HENSLEY Vicerprincipal Coughlin's loss has been GAR'S gain in the person of our new assistant-principal, Mr. C. Hensley. His pleasing personality and fine sense of humor have already endeared him to the student body. NllSS MARY R. NlcANlFF Director of Activities School life would be dull indeed were it not for the efforts of Miss McAniff. lt is through her untiring zeal that the proms, concerts, teas, and all the extra-curricular activities are made colorful, exciting, and smoothly run. '53 MR. ALBERT SALLITT Director of Guidance The class of 1958 was privileged to be the first in GAR'S history to have a full- time guidance counselor. Already Mr. Sallitt's help and direction have been of inestimable value to countless students of all grades. MRS. MELBA HOWE and P. FUGE Office Personnel Mrs. Howe and Peggy Fuge have gained distinction for both their efficiency and geniality. At any hour of the day, they may be found hard at work, and still smiling. They also render invaluable as sistance in training commercial students who are assigned to the office as part of their clerical course. 'a 1 r Us gtgf? To name a few, they sponsored an athletic banquet, at which time sweaters were awarded to the senior boys and girls who have earned a letter in some sport, they awarded titty dollars a piece to the outstanding senior girl and boy, and they entertained the whole class on class day. Certainly no school ever had a better alumni association, and we the seniors, look forward to the day when we will be proud to call ourselves members of that organiza- tion. . f 152 . 5 ? fit 3 iii X, 'Q A5 f 1 X 'A U T i Z f 2 5, 1 :H 1 'ms' . . Composed of all the homeroom representatives and their associates, the student council expresses the voice of the students . The aim of the organization is to teach the ideals of good citizenship, to discuss current school problems, and to suggest and carry out improvements. This year, a committee was appointed to promote safety in the school. STUDENT COUNCIL OFFICERS P. Holmes, Secretary J. Garrison, President STUDENT HANDBOOK COMMITTEE Seated-J. Challis, H. M. Dyke, P. B8..S1!e't'b8,11 Having shown their ability in undefeated exhibition play, the GAR cagers finished the 1957-58 season with a record of five wins to nine losses. In spite of valiant effort on the part of our boys, lack of overall height and inability to control the backboard dogged their steps. However, the season was not a total loss, as the Gar- men won the city championship and displayed plenty of potential power in competition. Prospects for the future are bright with tive of this year's starting lineup returning to tight for the Blue and Gray. It's certain that under the expert guidance of Chet Wasilewski, GAR will have a winning combo next season. A glance at the score card will show the results of this season's campaign.
