HHSHUHHLL The call for basketball candidates was answer- ed by forty-tour boys. and about twenty of these were sophomores and freshmen with no previous experience. However, among the other twenty boys were lettermen Dick Troub, Wendell Somers, lack Pomeroy, Maynard Cole, and Ed Divish from the 194445 team. Other boys with experience were Don Acker, Ioe Halmo, Stuart Snider, Iohn Kamin- ski, and' Harry Babcock. The lettennen named above started the early season games, but the im- proved playing of Don Acker soon gave him first call on the center job. As the season closed, Dick Troub, Stuart Snider, and Maynard Cole were the guards: Ed Divish, lack Pomeroy, and Wendell Somers, the forwards, with Acker at center. While winning ten ot the fifteen regular season games. the Pirates could score only 462 points for less than 31 points per game. Games were lost to Alma. Shepherd 623, Ithaca, and Breckenridge. Fulton Here Fulton Here Fulton There Fulton There Fulton There Fulton Here Fulton Here Our football season opened with eleven lettennen irom the previous year and about thirty inexperienced boys reporting ior lirst day practice. Lettermen irom 1944 who went ,out were Wayne Zittel, Don Acker. lack Pomeroy. Bob Zamarron, Ioe Halmo. Wendell Somers. Tom Zamarron, Stuart Snider. Dee Cooper. Dick Stonemun. and Russell Smith. Dick Troub, a letterman oi 1943, also decided to come out again this year. We were all glad to have him back on the team because ol his punting ability. We started the season without a coach. Mr.. Luck helped us some with the coaching at the beginning of the season. Later we were able to get Earnie Dilts to act as a regular coach and although this was his iirst experience in coaching football and he didn't know the boys' abilities. he was q le to bring the boys a long way. Thiswwas evidenced by the improved brandot football which they played at'the end ot the season. Q As is shown by the scores? we did not have a successful season. However. the boys gained a lot ot experience and kept the game alive lor Fulton. Boys who received letters this year are: Gerald Cook, Gar- old Browne, Perry Clayes, Alden Akin. David Rudd, Merle Troub, Wayne Zittel, Robert Stadlberger. Don Acker, Russel Smith. lack Pomeroy. Robert Zamarron, Joe Halmo, Wendell Somers, Wllbert Graham.
