The 1969-70 Varsity Basketball squad included 1, to r. Ksiazek, T, Imus, T, Roewert, R, Zaruba, T, Jensen, R, Nesbitt, D, Fitzgerald, D, Larson, D, Gilson, R, Oakley, Kneeling, 1, to r. R, Thomas, student manager, Mr. Dean M. Hunzeker, T, Horacek, J, Thomas, G, Palmer, R, Petricek, Head Coach, and T, Chlopek, student manager, Cagers Win District Crown The 1969-70 Warrior basketballers staged a tremendous finish, coming within one game of a State Tournament berth, After being counted out by many with a 6-11 won-lost record, the Warriors entered District play by upsetting seeded Genoa, 56-53, F.H.S. then downed two other favored entires, Cedar Rapids and Lindsay Holy Family, to gain the District Championship, It was Fullerton's first District title in five years. In regional action, the Warriors put up a gallant fight against a much taller Milford quint, but lost, finishing the season with a 9-12 record, Senior forward George Palmer led the '69-'70 squad with 350 points and 199 rebounds, Senior teammates Jerry Thomas and Tim Horacek gained runner-up honors in scoring and rebounding, Thomas scored 287 points and pulled down 161 rebounds; Horacek grabbed 181 re- bounds and tallied 250 points, 1969-70 Season Review Opponent Ravenna Genoa Centura Central City Madison Neligh Elkhorn Valley Newman Grove David City Burwell Albion Wood River Shelton Gibbon Wood River St. Edward Loup City Genoa Cedar Rapids Lindsay Holy Family Milford Jubilant cagers proudly display their District Prize during a downtown jaunt after the Lindsay Holy Family game, Coach Dean Petricek (extreme right) looks on approv- ingly.
