Ehlers Serves Third Year as Head Coach Coach Jerry Beckmann joined the coaching staff this year while serving his third as a member of the F.I-LS. faculty. Coach Ray Ehlers resumed his third season as the head basketball tutor. The coaches had to form practically a whole new team after last year's team was riddled through graduation. As the season progressed, a number of sophomores gained poise and earned good berths on the varsity. This is in evidence of the six sophomores who earned the right to wear the varsity suits. Two Juniors earned varsity berths along with five seniors. Student managers for this year's basketball team were Larry Grotelueschen and John Wragge. Basketball Coaches Ray Ehlers and Jerry Beckmann get suits ready for one of the home games. John Rice Q25 goes in for a two pointer in the Newman Grove game. ophomores Gain Varsity Berths Inexperience hindered the Warrior round- ballers throughout the season this year as the F..H.S. Varsity won five and dropped thirteen. The Warriors dropped the Neligh and Seward road games and played the Genoa five in a thrill- ing 39-42 overtime game. The next home game found the Warriors over Tilden 60-49, but the Central City club fired back with a 38-63 win. The lVl.B.N. Tournament at Albion matched Genoa against Fullerton again and this time the Warriors won 42-35. The semifinals with Albion and runner-up spot proved to be the Warrior's undoing. The following three games after the tourna- ment failed to produce a wing but in a regu- lar season game with Albion, the Warrior quin- tet found the hoop for a 52-48 win. St. Edward went the way of Albion, but the Ord game had a different story. In a rough game with Schuyler the Warriors came out on top 62-50. The last games with Aurora, St. Paul, and Loup City, pitted the Warriors against three fine-shooting clubs who furnished three losses. Ron Jacobsen, Dan Gilson, Dave Christensen.
