in Commercial and Vocational Classes The vocational and commercial areas of study are designed in such a fashion as to give the students actual experience. In Home Economics and Vocational Agricul- ture the students combine both in-class situations and learning procedures with class and individual projects. The students studying in these areas learn how to use correctly the tools which are available be- sides the correct care of the tools. ln- dustrial Arts is another area which is closely related to the above-mentioned fields of study. In both beginning and ad- vanced woodworking the students study the tools, their use and care, and learn to take pride in the finished projects. The Commercial Department pro- vides for another area in which the stu- dents gain vast amounts of experience. Typing, Office Practice, Shorthand, and Bookkeeping are all offered to the stu- dents who wish to gain a working knowl- edge of any one of these fields. One of the new twists to add interest in this year's senior English class was having students prepare sections of plays and other Works for originality and extra credit. This year, seniors studied devel- opment, interpretation, and application of English literature. One of the more interesting phases of speech class is the section on demon- stration talks. The speech course begins with short impromptu speeches andworks toward the goal of an eight to ten minute prepared oration. Mr. Yost is occupied several hours during each day and after school in tutoring future band students in music application. ln American History, students become acquainted with the development of our United States. They also discuss the fund- amentals of the practices that are used today in democracy. All students are free to use the library to supplement class instruction. Studious sophomores employ the re- sources of the library to prepare outside reports.
