Class Motto Beginning, not ending Class Colors . . . Red and White Class Flower . . . American Beauty Rose Time and Us Once upon a time-a long time ago-it was way back in 1936 A. D., that we en- rolled in the Emery Junior High School. We were Freshmen and we possessed that certain lackadaisical air. With president Sally Ann Linke, vice-president Archie Leigh Alley, and secretaryftreasurer Arlene Klassy the year passed all too quickly. Miss Fadness fulfilled her obligations as our advisor. Yes, that Freshman year passed all too quickly. The fall of 1937 found us tremf bling with apprehension as to what our future would hold. Here we were in a larger building looked upon with scorn as greenhorns and it took a whole year to convince the upper classes we weren't. Miss Leinfelder was selected to give us aid in all of our trials and tribulations. As every class has to have officers, we decided that George Pfelferkorn would be capable of fulfilling the duties of president, John Gates as vice' president, and Sally Ann Linke as secretaryetreasurer. They were. Various members of the class began to participate in athletics, forensics, and other school activities as a way of proving to the juniors and seniors that we weren't too backward. Our junior year swooped down upon our little group and new sophomores arf rived to put us at ease. By now we had found our footing and we knew our way around. Knowing that we would have big business to contend with during the year, we carefully elected our oilicers: John Fromader as president, John Gates as vicefpresi' dent, Dick Mattoon as secretary, and Tom Tuttle as treasurer. Don Fry, who had proved himself outstanding on the gridiron, was elected football captain for the follow- ing year. Bob Krueger showed that he knew his basketball and was elected to captain the 1940 team. Sally Ann Linke, Ireene Rumary, and Jeanette Tamblingson entered the forensics race and ran well. Ferdinand, the bull, that popular fellow of the year, inspired the theme for our prom which was held on April 29. Johnny Fromader and Sally Ann Linke led the promenade as king and queen. It was a most successful event due to the efforts of Miss Leinfelder, these the hardworking juniors, and all who attended. Father Time caught up with us at last and decided to throw us out of school with fresh diplomas and high ideals UQ. 1940 found Miss Leinfelder still with us as ad' visor. John Fromader, who had proved his worth as class president of the preceding year, was re'elected. Archie Leigh Alley, who served as the only woman' on our execu- tive board, was chosen vicefpresident. Dick Mattoon and Walter Pagels completed the little group as secretary and treasurer respectively. Father Time, noting that we had completed our high school education, applied his boot at commencement exercises. Page Twentyeone
