W e OGEER sas V it possible for the opponents to have little chance to score. Our back field was more than successful in taking the pigskin over the goal line. The only casualty of the season happened at the Milton game when i'Woody Bienfang broke his leg. This injury kept him out of a suit for the rest of the season. For several weeks after the season the Cardinals dined and danced royally at balls and banquets in their honor. The fact that Fort Atkinson does not have a chamf pionship team every year made people eager to honor this one. The first reward to the boys was a banquet at the Black Hawk Hotel. Wilson Beebe and Woodrow Bienfang were elected cofcaptains for next year. Next the Boys of '31 gave a chamionship ball at which letters were presented. The American Legion then gave a public banquet. To show his appreciation of their fine cooperation, Mr. Matthusen gave gold footballs to each team member. The league presented a trophy in the form of a football, and Mr. F. W. Hadf inger, formerly a citizen of Monroe, presented a cup to the winner of the Monroe game. Stoughton .... Wis. High ...... Monroe ........ Watertown .. Edgerton ...... Totals .. Coach Carl Matthusen and his assistants, Arthur Sundt and John Cole, dc' veloped a very powerful team, which won the Southern Six Championship, the first championship team Fort has had since it has been in the Southern Six League.
