CHOGEERI?1HiLT1KE23 M HISIOTY of the Class of 23 Four years a o we entered the Hlgh School as Freshmen We were as mtellwent and perhaps not so green as the ,General emerald class In our four years we have had a promlnent part 1n athletlcs On the strong team of 1921 we had Damels Blenfang Uherr and Hagemann w1th the veterans In our Senlor year Glllard Oettmeler Entress and Umland were on the squad plus the men formerly mentloned makmo a total of eleven Semors In basketball we have not shone so bflbht but when we did have a star on the qumtet he made up for xt Each year we had a Good class basketball team whlch won the school champ1onsh1p ln 1922 On last years team we were represented by Punk Damels and Bxenfang On the qumtet of 1922 23 we had Captam Damels Fmk Klement Owens and Blenfang This team was a Great obstacle to every team ln the conference Many members of our class have shown then' abxllty ln tennls and baseball In Oratory we had Lester Daugs rn our junlor year who also represent ed us at Whltewater Thls year three of our number won the Hrst three places ln the home contest and Arnold Oettmexer represented the school at Stoughton wmmnv a second We have had 1rls of our class out every year for declamatory but not untll this year d1d one wm first place 1n the home contest L1l11an Franc1sco was the fortunate one and she bot second at Stouvhton 1n the d1str1ct contest In debate work we have been excellently upheld Marlan Bendlg has been on the glrls team for the last three years Ethel Gray for two years and th1s year besldes these two lone Altpeter recelved a place The blrls have re cexved only one defeat 1n three years When we were Jumors ve had Lester Daugs Wendell Tubbs and john Hagemann on a team that ranked nmth xn the state Th1s year john Hagemann Lester Daubs Arnold Oettmeler Oscar Blenfano and Orland Zeugner showed the quality of the class by makmd the team nearly all Semors Thls debate team holds second place ln the state and lost the champlonshlp by only one per cent We have been well represented ln orchestra lee club and other act1v1 tres Lester Dauos was on the State Champlonshxp Poultry Demonstrat1on Team We have Hfteen honor students Durmg our four years of educatlon our number has stayed near the three score mark A few students have left town One of our classmates joe Knoll has gone abroad and IS now ln Germany Harrlet Bergman Dorothy Chadwlck and Lucxus Klement have all vone on matrrmomal ventures Only one of the class of 23 has dled and that IS Elmer Acker Whxle we are not the largest class that has ever passed from the portals of this great mstltutxon yet remember lt IS quallty and not quantity that counts john Hagemann 78 W - Y ' ,V V 2 K I I - - Y Y 'WY f - Y ...
