STUDENT COUNCIL FRUIT A MONUMENT Student Council began working before the 73-74 school year started to set goals for the coming year. As the student council worked throughout the year many of these goals were accomplished. The Student Council was involved in many diverse activities throughout the year. For the first time FMHS adopted a child from India. On the domestic side they sponsored the Christmas dance. They also organized a hat and coat check at athletic events to raise money. Student Council had daily meetings Monday through Thursday and then on Friday the representatives went to their assigned prep mods and reported the week's accomplishments and also took suggestions. FMHS Student council was the treasurer of the CCC (Correlative Community Council), a new organization of stu- dent councils throughout the valley. This new concept was directed by the various student councils, but the meet- ings were open to any student who wished to attend. 48 Student council was led by David Younger, Head Boy, and Judy Riggle, Head girl. Judy Riggle, Head Girl. David Younger, Head Boy. My duties are to preside over Student Council meetings in the Head Boy's absence. I feel very lucky to be able to hold this office in representing my school. The sports I am interested in are skiing, football, and basketball. This head male trip is certainly nothing like I had expected, ter attending a conference on student government during the summer of 1973, I thought I would return to Fruita Monument and proceed to change the course of the world with our student coun- cil. I soon discovered I was being a bit to idealistic, which points out the advantage of holding this office. It has given me a fuller, deeper, and realistic under- standing of other people and how to work with them. As for the student council as a whole, we have done quite a few things, most of which are rarely noticed by the student body. I sincerely appreciate the efforts and devotion of all the members of the 1973-1974 student government, and the continuing moral support by Dixi. 49 50 Paul Heidel Margaret Traylor CHRISTMAS KING AND QUEEN King Glen Fry Queen Rhonda Koestel Hetzel MONUMENT SINGERS Row 1: L-R: Robin Haas Terry Bonds Kim Sewell, Janie Barcus, Janet Rader, Debbie Schulties, Debby Clanton, Shari Cox, Dyan Smith, Karen Gobbo, Paula Haller, Chris Kronk. Cagers have shown improve- ment which has been witnessed by the favorable rise in all their statistics. We have taken more shots than our opponents but we are just not hitting our shots, admitted Coach Evans. Injuries and sickness have been major causes in Fruita's losses, according to the Cager Coach. Many records were on the way to being broken this year. Some of these records were total points for the year by Randy Klein and Bob Voegely, assists by Chris Bennetts; and rebounds by Bob Voegely and Randy Klein. Rebound records shattered mid-season when Bob Voegely broke the record for a half game with 15 and the team carried the record for a single game with 61 rebounds. 54 Coach Duane Evans SENIOR VARSITY Randy Klein Bob Voegely Chris Bennetts Nick Palmer Gary Peterson VARSITY Rick Sarten Jay Batt MANAGERS C.J. Marcelo graduated from his native high school in Brazil, and after returning to Brazil, Marcelo plans to enter a university there. Marcelo stated that he did not have any dislikes about the United States. In comparing FRUITA MONUMENT HIGH SCHOOL to his native high school, he said that Fruita is quite different. In Brazil, Marcelo only had to attend school half a day, and the teachers changed classes instead of the students. And in closing, Marcelo stated, Fruita High School is wonder- ful! FOREIGN EXCHANGE STUDENTS Juan Velez Puevta, a student from Medellin, Columbia, attended FRUITA MONUMENT HIGH SCHOOL while staying with the Edward Roskowski family.
