GWEREIQJ 1977 - 365 days of mornings after- but only 365, not 366 - last year was leap year. This is the year after our 200th birthday - the bicenten- nial - which brought on the biggest celebration our country has ever seen. The year after the olympics, which saw far more hard-fought con- flicts at the conference tables than on the playing fields. And once they finally got under way, the U.S. made a rather poor showing for a country of its size and resources. The year after the election, that saw the return of the great debates which turned out not to be so great after all. So what now? What of 1977? What good is it to be 200 and one years old? What is to become of the olympics, if their fate has not already been decided? And now that the campaign is over, what difference will it really make to you or me that jimmy Carter was electecd president? So this year, it would seem, is a year for reflec- tion - on last year's hoopla and what it all really meant, and a year for thought - for looking ahead to our uncertain future, and to what our great grand children will be saying about the year 2077.
