E5 Sllilnumnra V' .N . H65 degrees??!! lt's freezing in here. Or so it seemed. ln February this year, Prince George's County Schools, including Friendly, were ordered to turn their thermos- tats clown to 650. This was due to the unusually cold winter weather and the shortage of natural gas for heat- ing fuel. While other school systems got a mid-winter vacation because their buildings were closed, we at Friendly were fortunate enough, or unfortunate enough, depending on how you look at it, to only have reduced school temperatures. Although this resulted in frigid classrooms, it could be remedied by wearing sweaters and coats. Complaints were relatively few, and Spring did come, eventually. So the crisis is over for now, but one has to wonder what will happen next winter. Pic 15 Come on, l'm cold enough! 23 The Energy Crisis didn't seem to effect everyone. 37 I knew my car was under there somewhere. 43 Dan Fitzgerald bundles up for the 650 temperature. .N v . 7 styr f , . , 9 STUDENT LIFE X 27

At the rate Friendly students wear blue jeans one might wonder if they were the official school uniform. On any given day, somewhere between N2 and H3 of the student body can be expected to be wearing blue jeans. Wrangler, Lee, Faded Glory and many other brands abound at Friendly, although Levi's is by far the favorite. So what about these pants that students wear 3 days out of 5 in the school week. Many people believe that blue jeans origi- nated in San Francisco by a man named Levi Strauss who popularized them in America. He, of course, had no idea what he 'had started. Blue jeans have become so popular that no matter how much denim is manufactured, it seems there is never enough to go around. Merchants have been able to name their price for blue denim, and it will be bought. Witness the S15 we pay for a pair. Expensive or not, blue jeans are the single most popular article of clothing at Friendly. Oh, by the way, what are you wearing tomorrow?
