The Softball Teams First Year Looked Favorable Friendly's all-girl softball team, coached by Ms. Miller and Mr. Whitacre, overcame difficulties to have a successful first year. Playing on the poorest of fields, and having to compete with the boys baseball teams for buses did not stop this talented and determined group of atheletes. With one year behind them and the majority of the team being under- classmen, the softball team has high expectations for next year. Even with a league change from AA to AB, Friendly's all-girl softball team plans to astound more people next year. Golf Team Undefeated In League Play A relatively unknown team at Friendly is the golf team. Even though they had an undefeated record in league play, the team has gained little support from the school. Mr. Orr coaches the team in both the spring and the fall since they op- erate on a split schedule. Friendlyfs golf team was the first public school from Maryland to be in- vited to the Quantico Marine Base In- vitationals. In competition with forty Virginia teams, Friendly finished sec- ond. The team's only loss was to Bowie during the playoffs. This placed them second in the county. Undoubtedly the golf team's repu- tation will grow as the word spreads that we have a championship team. ff Q5 QW .f-07,9 .1 Q r av W ff W ' lg fri - . . . , . , ,. 1 . . . .. N . M f H f V may 411.
