G vli Xt ko new Lunchtime! Finally! Everyone hurries to the cafeteria, and waits through the lunch line. Right? Well, not everyone. For many, lunch means digging out car keys and heading for their favorite eating spot. Although Friendly has never had open lunches, many students often check-out fourth and fifth period. Why do they continue to go out when they can get cheaper lunches at school? Maybe no one told them it wasn't allowed? Perhaps they prefer a Big Mac to the school's Little Burgers. One stu- dent explained l like the feeling of freedom in going out to lunch. Often it's a status symbol to be able to ride off onto Allentown Road and return with a McDonald's bag in hand. According to Mr. Vann, it is county policy which prohibits the so-called 'fopen lunch. It is, he says, a question of safety and liability. Why isn't more of an effort made to catch vio- lators? This is not a prison! Mr. Vann points out. Although the schools opposition to the practice of going out to lunch has been clearly expressed, it is simply impossible to stop it with the personnel available. What would be done to a student who was, by some off chance, caught committing this sin. Again, Mr. Vann, HA parent conference would be called before the student in question could be readmittedf' Well, see you at McDonald's. Right Side: ll Grace Lee believes she deserves a break today at McDonalds. 23 The alternative to eating out- is eating lunch in our cafeteria. STUDENT LIFE X 19
