No, they're not off to McDonalds or Zig- gy's. These are the students on time release and work study programs. These pro- grams allow students en- rolled in less than six classes a day, to partake in other ac- tivities outside of school. More than 200 students in Friendly are enrolled in these programs, and their jobs range from gas station atten- dants, to legal secretaries. Students involved in the work study program receive credit as well as on the job training. ACADEMICS 1 159

It's that time again when everyone must de- cide his or her academic program forthe coming school year. Should I take Phys- ics? Should I take Algebra IIfTrig? Deci- sions have to be made. Release time maybe, or hovv about the Cooperative Work Study Program that was introduced last spring. Why not make money while going to school? Last spring we weren't given a chance to schedule our classes, but vve did select our subjects. This was due to County budget problems. A new English Class vvas introduced in the curriculum, but not as an elective, and is now required through all High School years. The class, ClrammarfComposition IO, II, IZ, must be passed each year in order to graduate. ACADEMICS X I 61
