No, they're not off to McDonalds or Zig- gy's. These are the students on time release and work study programs. These pro- grams allow students en- rolled in less than six classes a day, to partake in other ac- tivities outside of school. More than 200 students in Friendly are enrolled in these programs, and their jobs range from gas station atten- dants, to legal secretaries. Students involved in the work study program receive credit as well as on the job training. ACADEMICS 1 159

Lg- 'F ,,. 5 1 , In this world of rapidly increasing competition for jobs and entrances into universities of nationwide fame, making honor roll is almost a basic necessity. Honor roll, a special list of students with an aca- demic average of 3.0 or better, is designedto sepa- rate and recognize the above-average students from the mediocre students. Honor roll plays an important role in several honorary organizations at Friendly such as National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. These organizations only induct those students who have made honor roll contin- uously. Not only is qualifying for honor roll impor- tant in high school, but it is also a key factor that many good universities look for when they accept students. Making honor roll may also influence whether or not you can find a job. Honor roll builds prestige and self-confidence in one's academic abilities. The honor roll student is rewarded with a future filled with open doors. 158 X ACADEMICS Typing is a great skill for students to learn -just ask Graham Peak. . .i Working hard in school is a requirement in making the honor roll, and this class seems to be doing just that.
