Do you remember the Basic Skills Reading Mastery Test? To check and compare reading intellect among Maryland students, questions quizzing functional abilities were assembled. The test contained problems that some found quite easy: Mary had a scrum or a scarf on her neck? Where would you find john Smith's phone number, under the l's or the S's? Although, some questions were challenging, FRIENDLY, having scored the highest in Prince Georges County kept P.G.'s average from falling ridiculously below that of Marylancl's. Because of the poor results, GrammarfComposition has become a re- quired course for each year of high school. The skool bord thinks that studints now-days cant spel or rite in paragraf form, so they give us compsistun to teech us how. They also think we don't talk good, so they give us Gramar. Cramar tell us what we mite be able to do with langwage. The Friendly studints hav many Colorful opinyons of this Corse. Some say that one yere is sufishent enuf and threey yeres wold he a waste of time. Some uthers say that the idea flat out stinks! All in all, it wold be perfecly safe to saythat it ain't to popler among the stoodints. We ain't puttin' down Mrs. Schmeltz, Miss Beaver, Mr. Williams, Mr. Meehan, Mrs. White, Miss lowers, Mrs. Gorecki, Mrs. Fuller, Mrs. Williams, or Mr. Stringer. They are gude. Honor roll, a special list of students with an aca- demic average of 3.0 or better, is designedto sepa- rate and recognize the above-average students from the mediocre students. Honor roll plays an important role in several honorary organizations at Friendly such as National Honor Society, French National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society. These organizations only induct those students who have made honor roll contin- uously. Not only is qualifying for honor roll impor- tant in high school, but it is also a key factor that many good universities look for when they accept students. Making honor roll may also influence whether or not you can find a job. Honor roll builds prestige and self-confidence in one's academic abilities. The honor roll student is rewarded with a future filled with open doors. 158 X ACADEMICS Typing is a great skill for students to learn -just ask Graham Peak. . .i Working hard in school is a requirement in making the honor roll, and this class seems to be doing just that.
