Sit Mary Munson Sean Murphy Tony McClure Douglas McCollum Karen MCCready lon McKeel , 5 tp, V l 'ir 1' L Q. Holding back the words she didn't dare write, Eda Sevin laughs at herself We started out so young and free, We had no problems that we could see, We grew and grew as life must go on, Until the day when we met a new dawn. We finally did what we were put here to do. We became young adults, yes me and you, We went through the years, they passed so fast, We always wished the good times would last. All good things must Come to an end, This will happen to us right around the bend, It's time for us to go off on our own, Goto college and have a dorm for our home. This last year will always stay in our hearts, And when we think back, we'll remember when we had to part, lt's time for us to start a new life. A life of maturity and knowing what's right. lt's gonna be hard, we know for a fact. We also know we're Capable of doing this act. This is not the end of all the fun that we've had, lt's just the beginning of our new life ahead. Now don't be afraid of the big world outside, 'Cause everyone's done it or at least they tried. Until the time comes when we're together again, l wish all of you Good Luck in your strange new land. by Eda Sevin TOOXSENIGRS -V iff Ronald McKenzie Laurie Napier Barara Nedrow Wanda Nelson

102 X SENIORS Last january, as a junior, I was fortunate enough to be accepted as an exchange student to Chile in a program sponsored by the American Field Service International Scholarship Program. I lived for a year in the small old, agricultural town of Limache, located near Valparaiso, the largest Pacific port in South America. My host parents. Arturo and Sylvia Godoy had a family of 7 crazy, but loving kids ranging from ages 10-18. I attended a small Catholic school composed of about 280 students from kindergarten to 12th grade. My graduating class had 29 girls. Discipline in school is very strict, and all students in public or private schools in the country are required to wear uniforms. There is no course selec- tion in Chilean schools, all high school students in the whole country take the same courses all year. These courses are French, English, Spanish, literature, history, geography, math, physics, bi- ology, chemistry, philosophy, art, phys. ed and music. Chileans are very friendly and outgoing people, curious about everything going on in the world. A.F.S. provided me with a chance to actually live in another country, not as a tourist, but as an authentic inhabitant of the country. I had an in depth experience in family, community and school life in a foreign country. A.F.S. gave me, an American stu- dent, a chance to meet new people, explore new things, and inter- change ideas and customs with people of another language, who have proven to be not different from ourselves. The three valuable things I gained from my A.F.S. experience are understanding of people, self-confidence, and independence. Lisa Curtis, the A.F.S. exchange student, looks on.
