Students have learned
Many new tricks,
Since the little red schoolhouse
Was rehuilt with bricks.
The times have changed
Since hickory sticks-
Since electric lights
Have replaced -wicks.
No longer taught
By school-marms straightlaced,
We no longer suffer
'Neath teachers fwoefaced.
Those elders have been
By moderns replaced.
Our faculty's sfwell
fBut teachers, if we catch you piling up
homework on nights of games or plays,
We'll sponge out tlzat compliment, even if it
does spoil the rhythmj

LEO A. HARRIS, Principal
Our present Western Civilization is the re-
sult of the intense struggle of our pioneer an-
cestors against human and physical resistance.
At times this resistance was active, alive, cun-
ning, and strong: again, it was a passive, dead-
ening, discouraging sort of thing.
The Pioneers eventually won the struggle
and a newer, finer, and more virile civilization
was born in the West. Here were found two
powerful human forces-competition and co-
operation-welding a group of rugged, re-
sourceful, and loyal individuals. The intense
fight for their very existence developed their
competitive spirit, while their utter dependence
upon each other brought a newer and more
real feeling of loyalty and co-operation.
We at Fresno High School are proud of
our Western heritage. We are truly sorry that,
geographically, the frontier days have corne to
an end, but We also rejoice in the knowledge
that other frontiers remain undiscovered.
We have stepped upon the shores of the
new frontier of science, and we trust that the
same spirit of co-operation and competition so
strongly developed in our pioneer ancestors
will aid us in conquering the new and limitless
possibilities of science.
