Throughout each of those ten years you have left, in one way or another, something to help glorify Fremont High. From your beginning days at Fremont, with its student body of less than a thousand, until now, with over two thousand, you have proven your willingness to work for the betterment of others . . . You have shown us determination and loyalty in any one of your many endeavors . . . You have produced, in our Music Department, bands that have been worthy of winning numerous awards . . . You have given us uncounted hours of valuable help in musicals, plays, assemblies, and concerts . . . Your stern discipline has led us to perfection, and your friendly disposition and pride in your work have all helped gain for you the never ending respect and admiration of teachers, students and alumnae. Perhaps only a few realize the true guidance that you brought, along with your subtle humor, to Fre- mont ten years ago, but, as you are so dedicated to Fremont High School, we the students are, too, indebted to you for your wonderful contributions. We proudly dedicate to you, Mr. Douglas Harville, this Pathfinder of Nineteen-Hundred and Sixty-two. MR. A. C. STEVENS Superintendent This Is a Year of Progress We give thanks for added facilities at Fremont, construction of Homestead High, to open this tall, and new instruction wings for Sunnyvale and Cupertino High Schools, still in the planning stage. To match these physical changes, our curriculum is being revised and upgraded and new teaching methods have been installed. All this has been made possible be- cause citizens believed in their schools and wanted the best for you students. Their sup- port in a bond election led to the progress you see around you every day. HAAN Principal ADMINISTRATION A person who does not believe in anything will never achieve excellence. ln what do you believe? How ardently do you believe? Are you aimless or have you alloviqed your minds and wills to be captured with a sense of purpose- fulness and a wanting to realize the best that is in you? Our country needs you young people desperately. There is a great challenge here for young men and women of intelligence, imagina- tion and courage. How will you rise to this challenge? It you believe in a free society, be wlorthy of a free society. If you believe in a free society, are you concerned for the in- dividual in that society? For every good person strengthens society. May this yearbook be a reminder of the goals you have achieved, the good times you have had, the friendships you have made, and may it be a harbinger of good days ahead. My congratulations to Mr. Harville who is most deserving of the honor you have bestowed upon him. ROGER ADAMS Vice-Principal BERNICE MENG HENRY NOR'BERG Dean of Girls Dean of Boys if" ,.. Nail? There are feelings of happiness and of "5 sadness as we recall the many incidents which made up our four years in high school. Q. V F. DAN Mcl NTOSH X it 'T Each year brought us new, and more important responsibilties, but, along with these new responsi- bilities came more and more privileges-privileges which symbolized our growth in character, our ma- turity. We won the applause of upper and lower-class- GETRRY HART men alike with our Frosh Assembly. ln our Sopho- president more year the thirties and varsity football squads c brought to Fremont two district championships, and Q the Soph Hop had the entire school involved in one y of the best patronized dances of the year. A ln i960 we took our place among the upper- classmen, something we had looked foreward to for two long years. As Juniors, our class and school spir- it reached a thundering crescendo as we walked off with the Spirit Trophy. Finally, not really knowing whether to be happy or sad, we became Seniors. We put on the Senior Play, which proved to be a success. Christmas Vaca- tion came and went all too quickly, and then, back to work, At this time, in spite of several minor catas- trophies, the Senior Assembly was presented to the upper-classmen. Many Freshmen took an active part in sports, drama, school politics, music, and other activities. There is a lot of talent in the graduating class of 1965, and we expect to hear more about them in the coming years. y . ,. e f r . . J w .: 1 fi? -A . ,r ' ifilr. . Dear Student Body: My name is Ingrid and I am your foreign ex- change student from Sweden. I First, I would like to thank you all so very much for this year here at Fremont. You have really made it a year I shall always remember. I am especially impressed by the friendliness of the students. The most inter- esting thing about attending Fremont is that al- most everything has been different from what I have previously known. One of the differences I can mention is, that we do not have free Saturdays in Sweden. IA thing I will not like when I get backl. We have to study about fourteen subiects, and we have a different schedule every day. I live in the southern part of Sweden. My home is situated in the country, but l attend a high school in a town about fifteen miles away. It is not only at school that I have learned a lot of things this year. I have also learned a lot to- gether with my family, for example, how to water ski. I enjoyed that very much. Yes, my year here in California has been full of excitements. I really recommend all sopho- mores to try out for foreign exchange student. It is a wonderful experience! I A I T I Germany has a very old heritage, It was strange to ,come from a country where a building of ten or more years is considered old and go to Germany and travel on roads that had been built at the time of the American Revolution. lt was awesome to go into achurch that had been standing for three hundred years beforefColumbus discovered the New World.. I Y A g Germany is 'acountry divided from itself by armed guardsandrbarbed-wire. This is ever in their minds. Not only do they seek for.the reunifi- cation of Germany, but they also seek for a unifi- cation of Europe as a roadblock to Communism. They think very highly of the United States and the way in which we helped them get on their feet after the fall of the Third Reich, 'West Germany is now the strongest economical nation linriWe.st- ern Europe. Unemployment is practicalIy,i.non! existent. A I ,,l,iIIf.Ae.s While much of the nation is qu.iteef7Art1eiKiCan- ized," the people still follow manyy.fine'i5ldli.Qusf toms. The German family is a very close-knit .iil nit -more so than the average U.S. family. Courtesy is very important to them, They have much. ap- preciation for the -fine arts and a culture which has been developing and changing for centuries. The people I met were very friendly, and I couldn't have stayed with a nicer family. The friendships, which developed are a very important part of my experience. I gained things, too, of a more subtle naftyulfe, such as a greater appreciation for differentfviewpoints, a more acute awareness of beauty, and safgreater appreciation of this country, the United States of America. All in all, the trip is something I .will cherish and remember always. The Red- men came on strong to lose by only a touchdown to undefeated Los Altos and only a point to highly-rated Cam- den. On the winning side, the tribe massacred three teams rated within a touchdown of them. There were standouts, as always. John Travis was the big power in the lndian backfield and made shambles of opponents, defenses, Being awarded "outstanding back" in the NSCVAL after being outstanding lineman last year, John reigned over the tribe this year. Mark Williams, the smallest guard in the league, was also chosen to the NSCVAL all-league team.
