This year's Fremont track team was large, had much depth, hut few outstanding performers. Forced to
rebuild almost his entire squad, Coach Leo Pawek rlid a magnificent job hut did not have too much sue-
cess in the O.A.L. meets. Senior Ed Miller, veteran shot- putter for three years, proved to he the bright spot
in the cinder squad, as he consistently threw the shot forty-seven feet to win many valuable points. Val
johnson proved that he was a pointmalzer hy sprinting the hundred yard dash in 10.1, while senior Oscar
Metz turned in creditable performances in the low hurdles. Bob Norris and Bert janis in the half-mile,
Charlie Slater in the mile and Charlie Hallum in the 440 all ran some very good races.
Through the season, most of the team's strength was in the field events. Senior Ben Perry showed great
promise as he leaped twenty feet, five inches in the broad jump. In the high jump Bert Anderson and joe
Piastri turned in good performances. Frank Lann pressed Miller in almost every meet and gave the Tigers
a fne one, two punch in the shot- put.
