Catching a disease called "Macbethitis". Making a TV set that doesn't work seem like a fabulous bargain at the Senior Sale. Putting one too many notes on the end of "Chorale And Coppriccio". Downing Whitehall for the first time in five years on their home court. Managing victories when the gridders needed diving gear about three-fourths of the season. Torturing Miss Werner and Mr. O'Bryan with the thought of green caps and gowns. Realizing that these are the last days 195 seniors will be to- gether as a class. lt all began in 1963 when we had entered the glorious realm of the senior high. We were still underclassmen, but at last we had the seventh and eighth graders to look down onto! Suddenly, we were confronted with all sorts of privileges, we were allowed to attend school dances, elect officers and select Homecoming court representatives. Debbie Dewey, Judy Hamilton, Debbie Fosheim, Larry Simpson, Brian Nyman and Jeff Smithson took their places in the student government, and Judy Hamilton was chosen as our Homecoming representative. For the positions of president, vice- president, secretary and treasurer, we elected Steve DeBoer, Barb DeKuiper, Gayle DeShetler and Barb Scott. Gradually, we set- tled into the new pattern of school lifep we'd passed one year of our high school career without too many battle scars. ln l964, we'd taken our places as sophomores. That was the year we became real someones! Fremont was left in a state of terror as we earned our drivers' licenses, and the upperclassmen looked at us with a whole new respect. As class president, we re- elected Steve DeBoer, with Cassius Bultman as vice-president, Cris Pinnick as secretary and Bob Hoveman as treasurer. Debbie Fosheim, Gayle DeShetler, Barb DeKuiper, Nancy Foster, Maureen Ryan and Barb Scott represented the class in Student Council, and Jane Thompson was selected for the Homecoming Court. As sophomores, we were humiliated by being made to serve for the Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet, but we managed to retain some of our dignity by polishing the flashy new classrings, which, for the first time, bore an established school crest. One by one, the months slipped by, and we were iuniors. The Iunior year promised to be a big one, with a -play to present and o Junior-Senior Prom and Banquet to put on. Under the excellent direction of Miss Werner, the cast for "Web of Murder" executed their mystery-comedy to capacity crowds. Janna Barlow made a charming addition to the Homecoming Court, and Jane Thompson and Cassius Bultman captured the queen and king's crowns for the Midwinter Festival. Barb Scott's experience paid off in Student Council, as she was elected secretary. Janna Barlow, Debbie Fosheim, Judy Hamilton, Steve Fox, Brian Nyman and Walt Jendrzeiewski represented the eleventh grade in the student's governing body. Once again, Steve DeBoer was put in the office of class president, with Cassius Bultman in for a second term as vice-president, Gayle DeShetler as secretary and Mary Johnson as treasurer. Our prom proved to be unforgettable, carried out in a beautiful, classic Greek theme. Graduation held more meaning that year. We realized we would only be a part of F.H.S. until June of '67p in one very brief year, we would be clad in caps and gowns. The long and formerly boring addresses to the graduating classes would be directed at us, and those insignificant pieces of paper would bear our names. As our four class officers led the class of '66 at Commencement, we knew the familiar strains of "Pomp and Circumstance" would bring a stubborn lump to our throats. Unbelievably and all too suddenly, we became the class of '67. We were shaken by a sense of insecurity, because all at once, so many people depended on us. So many of those men in the red-and-white jerseys used to be the skinny little kids who had a hard time holding on to the ball. We were the ones playing first chair in a prize-winning concert bandl We were the ones who made a mint selling iunk at the senior salel Those were our boys who helped make the splendid football, track, swimming, wrestling and basketball teams what they werel Eleven seniors nearly made a wreck out of Miss Werner as their play, "Cracked Nutts", managed to miraculously materialize on the opening night of the play. Brian Nyman, Jeff Suerth, Delcie Carter and Mary Johnson held the offices of president, vice-president, secretary and treasurer for their class, and the student body elected Judy Hamilton and Debbie Fosheim president and secretary of the Student Council. Stan Boes, Cris Pinnick, Ruth Ensing, Prudy Shanahan, Glen Luchies and Tim Tubbergen were council's twelfth grade members. Prudy Shanahan was assisted by her staff in editing the 1967 Mogul and Mary Johnson was Editor- in-Chief of the Packer Tales. Homecoming festivities were very elaborate and very muddy. Janna Barlow, Gayle DeShetler, Judy Hamilton, Debbie Fosheim, Cris Pinnick and Jane Thompson made the pageant a memorable one, and choosing a queen was difficult. In the two days between the Homecoming Assembly and the game, tension reigned supreme. Friday found the floats in rather soggy condition, and the football field was a sea of mud. The marching band nearly drowned in attempts to execute a dif- ficult varsity-kick to the regal tune of "Aida" and found that maintaining a strict attention was next to impossible as lovely Debbie Fosheim tearfully accepted the queen's crown. Basketball season rolled around, and with it, the Midwinter Festival. Out of the senior court of Barb DeKuiper, Lillian Down- ing, Marcia Leavitt, and Barb Scott, Jeff Suerth, Jon Brookhouse, Dan Fenner and Chris Nelson, we chose pert Barb DeKuiper and Jon Brookhouse as the royal court. But after the exquisite Packer cagers had made a place for themselves with an admirable record, and the music department had completed a rigid schedule of concerts and contests, the days were numbered for the class of '67. We are measured for our caps and gowns, order the necessary announcements, and our memories begin to get the best of us. We wonder how dissecting a frog, committing "out, out brief candIe" to memory or locating Magnitogorsk on the map will ever prepare us for the world outside the halls of F.H.S. We've passed the stage where others think for usp now we must think for ourselves. As we grasp our diploma, so too, we are taking the reins of responsibility. We realize Tomorrow is Another time, Another place, Another day, Another life, and May be A different existence, A different benevolence, A different world: A past walking hand-in-hand With the Future. wa 172 Personalities 'QS MOST HELPFUL Mary Johnson and Gary Kandler CUT UPS Jane Purcell and Dennls Gates PRETTIEST GIRL and MOST HANDSOME BOY Debbie Foshelm and Dan Fenner BEST DRESSED Maureen Ryan and Stan Boes fi? iw if 535 iii uf s .Q ,IS gf? F QQQEQQ Thus Ended 1967 Thus ended the glorious school year of 1966 and 1967. It was a memorable one and its memories will linger in our minds ages hence. The Publication Staff and I hope that this 1967 Mogul has been able to capture these thoughts and freshly renew those memories which may have slipped from your mind. In the future, as you look within this Mogul, gazing upon old classmates and recalling certain incidents whose memories belong only to you, see it as more than a yearbook. See it as a history book, a reference book, a student project, a memory book, and most of all, your Mogul. Its theme is the student, or, more directly, its theme is you. Yes, as times goes by, and these pages are read and reread, we sincerely hope that once again the spirit of 1967 will capture your thoughts.
