The East Rockford Rablets broke a six- game losing streak at the expense of the Pretzelettes, T9-O. Playing without the ser- vices of Halfbacks Wayne Heitz and Charlie Williams the Freeport attack could not get rolling against the stubborn East Rockford de- fense. The Joliet Steelmites outclassed the Free- port Pretzelettes to the tune of an 'I8-0 vic- tory. Freeport could gain little through the rugged Joliet line as was demonstrated early in the fourth quarter when the Pretzelettes had a first down on the Joliet 7 yard line and were unable to hit pay dirt. if Row 'l: J. The first time the Pretzelettes had their hands on the ball they launched a 52 yard touchdown march to close the season with a 6-6 tie against the Elgin Ponies. To climax the march Ted Wootan threw a TO yard touch- down pass to Fred Vallarta. Hickman's kick for the extra point was wide. The frosh-sophs closed the season with a Big 8 record of two wins, four defeats and a tie and a season's record of three victories, 5 losses, and l tie. A f'x is

Then early in the third period, Heitz made a magnificent return of an Aurora punt as he went 74 yards for a touchdown. Failure to convert on extra point attempts caused Freeport to lose to LaSalle-Peru 'I4-12. Both Freeport touchdowns came on passes by Ken Hickman. The first was a six yard touch- down pass to Charlie Williams and the second was a 53 yard touchdown pass play with Heitz on the receiving end. West Rockford's sophomores exploded for three touchdowns in the last four minutes to turn a scoreless tie into a 20-0 victory over the Pretzelettes. With time running out, Free- port was forced to take chances by passing with the passes developing into West Rock- ford touchdowns. Scoring both touchdowns in the first half and converting on one of two extra point attempts, Freeport's frosh-sophs defeated East Aurora l3-'l2. Fullback Ted Wootan bulled his way over the goal from one yard out for the first score, and Malcolm Pearson recover- ed an East Aurora fumble in the air and ran 13 yards to the end zone for the second T.D.

In the opening game of the season the junior varsity grid- ders, playing host to West Rockford's J-V's came out on top, 18-0. The following week the junior varsity journeyed to Rockford, again to face West High. This time, due to injuries received the previous week, the tables were turned, and the Warrior junior varsity romped over Freeport, 39-O. Beloit, the next foe of the junior gridders, completely outclassed Freeport, and breezed to a 56-O victory. Dubuque was no match for Freeport's team as they were defeated 26- 6. Freeport played its final game of the seo- son in a snowstorm, but nevertheless, defeat- ed a rugged Galena eleven, 27-25. At the close of the season the following re- ceived jayvee letters: Maxey, Kettelhut, Sy- mens, Dame, Rutter, Yde, Ackerman, Jerry Allen, Charles Allen, and Watkins.
