The Tomcats crossed the goal line frequently, however, to come out on top 23-7. The Pretzels drove deep into East Rock- ford territory several times, but each time had to relinquish the ball. A late touchdown by Moline tied the score at 7-7 in the Pretzel's next engage- ment. Luedeking plunged over from the two yard line and John Woodward kicked the extra point to account for Freeport's points. Freeport got oft to a roaring start in the Big 8 campaign by beating West Aurora, 25- 20. Wes Luedeking and Whitey Stewart each crossed the goal line twice for the Pretz, with Luedeking plunging for the lone extra point. Against LaSalle-Peru, Freeport took an 18-0 lead in the first half as they rolled to a 25-13 victory over the Cavaliers. Freeport touchdowns were scored by Wes Luedeking, who accounted for two, and one each by Woodward and Kielsmeier. Luedeking plung- ed for the lone extra point. An ankle iniury to Luedeking took the spark out of the Freeport Homecoming as West Rockford's Warriors edged the Pretz 14- 13. On the last play of the first half Luede- king bulled over tackle from the seven yard line to score, and then plunged for the extra point. The second T.D. was scored on a 31 yard pass, Luedeking to Trunck, but Luede- king's plunge for the extra point failed.
