THE ANNUAL POLARIS-1915 5555 Class Hzsiory 1915 xiii Four short years ago there came to thls Hlgh School a wonderful class of Freshmen Now thus same class IS about to leave the school to enter the world as workers We are meetmg here tomght to tell you of the achlevements of thls Class of 1915 But ln one sense there IS no need to depend on mere words to express our glory Our deeds have 1m pressed themselves on your mmd so that they can never be forgotten The world w1ll lxttle note nor long remember what we say here but xt can never forget what we dld here In our Freshman year we were green, as such classes usually are and we were the source of much amusement to the upper classmen By mnstakmg one of the Class of 1911 for a member of the faculty one of our number made herself the target for numerous Jokes A few of our shorter classmates were unable to consult the teacher ln charge wlthout ascendmg the platform just as the trees take on a verdant hue ln the sprmg glvlng promxse of many leaves and branches ln the summer so the Class of 1915 gave promlse of surpassmg all other classes of F H S We were represented ln athletlcs and dramatlcs and began practrce ln debate but at first the gxrls were far superlor to the boys ln th1s l1ne Leavmg a few by the waysxde, after the fmals, we became Sophomores Tlus year hke the old Romans we came we saw, we conquered No obstacle was unsurmountable Miss Rextzells assxgnments ln Geometry Modern HlSt0fy dates to be memorized Caesar s Conquests German legends and tual balances which wouldn t balance were some of the dlflicultles we had to overcome Wlth several representatxves ln the relay race, basket ball team and operetta besides an oratorlcal contest and another class party we caused the other classes to mcrease thelr respect for us Our colors were stlll flying at the end of the June finals We could not ask for more for now we were jumors Proud of our success durmg the first two years we determlned to chmb hlgher than prevxous jumor classes Wlth thxs object m vlew we selected a H111 to be our pres1dent Class p1n.s were ordered early ln the year and thelr arrlval gave Imogene a chance to exchange her pm for a Hart ' The junior Falr alone would glve us recommen datxons for positions wxth Rlnglmg s or Barnum 81 Baxley s cxrcuses As our class never does anythmg by halves we rented the Odd Fellows Temple for the banquet Of course you must not thmk that we neglected our studies If we had been pald by the word for some of those thousand word essays how our bank accounts would have grown We gave a play What Happened to jones It was so good that no other Junlor class can ever hope to do better Our Junior year closed when we re celved the mantle of Senxorshlp from the class of 1914 Another battle had been won and we were Seniors The glories of this last year are still fresh 111 your memorles Who can forget our football team and the lemons and cough drops used after the games to restore lost VOICES? The band whxch cheered them to vlctory and the songs and yells of the rooters all dxd so much to make our record brrght Two strong debatxng teams brought other honors put Freeport on the map Thls team was made up mostly of Senlors Our class can boast of an honor which other classes have strxven for and lost We are proud to be the State Champnons May other classes keep that honor brxght and shmmg Our class play was a success and the proceeds will help to make our Annual Polaris the best ever We are pubhc spmted and as an evldence of thus subscnbed to the Y M C A buxldmg fund Semor year IS not all frohc we have a hlgher average fo1 home readmg work than any other class Now we have fimshed the tasks we had before us and other classes wlll follow m our footsteps We are leavxng the Freeport Hxgh School wxtlx 94 m the ranks but we w1ll always remember our classmates, teachers and frxends We appreclate all they haue done for us and we also thank the cltlzens who have supported us 1n all of our undertakmgs It IS for the class of 1916 to be here dedicated to the task before them that from our example they take mcreased devotxon to the school to whxch we were so devoted that they here resolve that we have not labored so far xn vam and that the glories of the Freeport Hlgh School and the Class of 1915 shall not be dlmlnlshed or perlsh from the earth Marguerxte Doyle Hlstorxan 1915 . . , . . . . . 1 Y .
