Three Matmen Qualify For State Meet
With six of the varsity squad in their first ye ar
of wrestling, the 69-70 wrestling season can defi-
nitely be termed as one of rebuilding for the
Flyers. Although the team had only five wins as
compared to six losses and one tie, the individual
performances of several team members in tourna-
ment action and throughout the season were excep-
tional. The team's easiest victory occurred at Mon-
trose where the Flyers racked up an outstanding 54-
0 score, while the toughest competition came from
Canistota, where on one occasion the Hawks won by
a score of 24-23.
At the district tournament in Yankton, three
Flyers, RIGHT: Ted Hofer, David Epp, john Han-
sen, ranked among the first four places, john placing
second and Ted and David receiving fourth, From
there on the trio advanced to the regional tourna-
ment at Sioux Falls, where all three took fourth
place honors, qualifying them for the state wrestling
tournament at Watertown.
Each year members of the team are given awards
for outstanding achievements in wrestling. These
achievements include the most number of pins, the
fastest pin, and the most number of take- downs in a
season. Receiving trophies for these honors were
David Epp and john Hansen, who tied for the most
number of pins at thirteen a piece, Ted Hofer for
the fastest pin at seventeen seconds, and Kelly
Mutschelknaus for the most take-downs with
seventeen.
