I stopped a moment and strug- gled in my mind to think where they could have gone. They were all right here with me when I last laid my mind to rest, but now they were gone. Could have some thief crept in and made away with them? Maybe they got bored and ran off to more exciting places or maybe they were just playfully hiding from me. I decided to look for them. I found the Present steal- thily sneaking away right before my eyes and the Future hid- den in the shadow of a rainbow. But where was the Past to be found? Where could it possibly be? Then I hit upon it. Quickly I raced to that secret chamber where my most cherished and treasured memories were stored. And, just as I had expected, there it was, the Past sitting crosslegged upon a dusty pile of memorabilia intently reading a battered old copy of the Shaw- nee ,72. Here now before too much ofthe Present slips away to join the Past, I would like to offer special thanks to the follow- ing without whom the '72 Shawnee might have been only an illusory chimera: to the devoted and dilligent of the Shawnee editorial and staff, to Mr. Walter Shingler, John Hammil, Rich Snideier, Jim Wright, Pat McKendric, Dave Sassic, Don Brumbaugh, Graule Studios and Pelia Studios photographers, to the cooperative, secretaries, faculties and administrators of Freedom Area Junior-Senior High Schoolg to a Helpful Miss Rozan Eazorg to the flamboyant American Yearbook Compa- ny representative, George Stewart, to the students of Freedom whose lives make up this book, to an outgoing James Humesg and especially to an assiduous and cognizant yearbook advi- sor, Mrs. Nancy Decker. Sincerely, Thom Lizzi - Editor-in-Chief Autographs 13... To enter into the world it is now my turn after years of effort and work to learn all the ideals and values that, it is saidg the American people hold high and live by and abide in till the days that they die and is so nobly represented by the striped flag they so proudly fly. I have come unto this day at the age of a decade and seven, and as I start now into my life, I guide my eyes toward heaven for there, I am told, all the answers lie free, just waiting for someone like you or me to come with his heart open and those answers he will see. I stand here in wonder as I look across the earth and search for the meaning that is behind my own birth. Is it that live been born to become a king, or to end up in a gutter ownin no worldly thing, or is there some special song that only I can sing? A SENIOR'S VISTA 224 I listen to the wind and hear a baby cry, and see the worry-worn face ofits mother ask why a child should go hungry in such a plentiful land and why does her man have to work by his hand 'till there is nothing more left of him but ashes and sand. I look now beside me into the eyes ofmy love and see all the hopes and the dreams that the whole universe is made of, And as I take her in my arms and hold her close to my breast, l know that ifa man has to live he will live his best only ifhis heart is filled with love till the day of his rest. And so I journey on into that world that I must go and to strike my own fortune and to produce my own show. But when my days are all over and my time is finally all spent, I must know in my heart just where my life went so that unbridled and unworried my spirit into the next world can be sent
