DEDICATION By J A B CALLIS JOSHUA E MAXWELL wa born un Edgefueld Fayette County Ohuo March 9 1879 He was educated un the Publuc Schools of Xenua and Wulberforce Ohuo He grad uated Cum Laude from Wulberforce Unuversuty un 1897 wuth the degree of Bachelor of Arts ln 1927 hus Alma Mater honored hum wuth the M A degree Before comung to Douglas un 1905 he had been pruncupal of Luncoln Hugh School Carlusle Pa and had taught un the Elementary Schools of Baltumore He pursued graduate work at Morgan College Unuversuty cf Pennsylvanua and New York Unuversuty Hus returement was effectuve September 1 1942 at whuch tume he was Actung Chaurman of the Com mercual Department of the school RALPH V COOK was born September 18 1874 un Washungton D C He attended the Publuc Schools of Washungton graduatung from the M Street Hugh School now Dunbar Hugh Schooli un 1893 He was graduated from Cornell Unuvers uty un 1898 wuth the degree of Mechanucal Enguneer After havung spent two years un professnonal work he was appounted a member of the furst Negro faculty of Douglas Hugh School He taught Mechanucal Drawung and Art and organuzed and coached the furst football and baseball team In 1917 been taken by hum at Unuversuty of Pennsylvanua Unuversuty of Maryland Morgan College and Columbua Unuversuty After forty one years of servuce at Douglas he retured on September 1 1942 wuth a record that shows no absences for personal ullness LEVI V MOORE us a natuve of Texas and a graduate of Tullotson College Austun Texas and Hampton lnstutute Hampton Vurgunua Mr Moore became a mem ber of the faculty of Douglass un 1901 thus beung the furst Negro faculty under the pruncupalshup of Mr Hugh M Browne Except for sux years 190410 when he taught at Cheyney Normal School he has been at Douglass havung never mussed a day for personal ullness Hus returement on September 1 1942 brought to a close a teachung career of forty one years spent un teachung woodwork and electrucuty GEORGE L MOORE us a natuve Baltumorean a graduate of Douglass 32 and of Morgan State College 36 He was appounted to teach at Douglass un February 1938 and entered the armed forces of hus country on November 2 1942 beung the furst member of the faculty to be unducted He us a member of Company B 35th Bn E R T C statuoned at Fort Leonard Wood Mussouru He us a candudate for Offucers Traunung School 2 C . . . -' 1 1 ' 1 1 1 1 D ' . 1 - .
