ENGLISH MRS. LOIS E. MCHAFFIE is new at F.H.S. this year, but she is not a newcomer in the Teaching profession. Mrs. McHaffie is a graduate of Holyoke High in Massa- chusetts. Her B.S. degree was received at Mary Wash- ington College of the University of Virginia. She did her graduate work at North Adams State College and the University of Massachusetts. She has taught in Maine, Vermont, and Massachusetts. Mrs. McHaffie sponsors the Tri-Hi-Y and the Teen-age Book Club, is secretary of the 51 North Civic Improvement Club, and belongs to the First Church of Christ Scientist of Memphis. Her main hobby is taking care of her two year old daughter Mary Jane and she always enioys a good swim. Q2 MRS. WILLIAM B. LEFFLER has always liked variety. She was born in Birmingham, l b d t the a e of four moved to Amarillo Texas where she finished high Aa ama, an a g , , school. She did her freshman college work at Birmingham-Southern, attended South- western in Memphis during her sophomore and'iunior years, and then transferred to Northwestern University her senior year to get her B.S. degree. Mrs. Leffler taught ' ' ' ' h M.A. from speech for three years at Whitehaven High before she quit to receive er Mem his State. She came to F.H.S. in 1953, where she teaches senior English and P sponsors the Student Council. Outside of school Mrs. Leffler is busy with her husband, ' h t o ear who is judge of the General Sessions Court, her four year old son Steve, er w y old daughter Elise, and her many affiliations with Union Avenue Methodist Church. JOHN HESTER came to F.H.S. three years ago as an English teacher, but the department is fast losing a good teacher to the Speech Department. Mr. Hester was born in Fulton, Mississippi, and finished high school at lndianola, Mississippi. He holds a B.S. degree from Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi. His interests are so many and so varied that he is about the busiest bachelor we know. He 'is either playing the organ, teaching a Sunday School class, counting the money for Frayser Baptist Church, coaching a play to be given by the Thespian Society which he sponsors, or watching ing. The wonderful part is he does all well. l some athletic event in which Frayser High is participat- MRS. LEON M. STEVENSON is always calm, cool, and collected. She was born in Birming- ham, Alabama, where she graduated from Phillips High and Birmingham-Southern. She taught at the Mountain Brook School in Bir- mingham before coming to Germantown. This is Mrs. Stevenson's third year of teach- ing at F.H.S. Her favorite class must be the iuniors as she sponsors the class and teaches junior English. Mr. Stevenson, principal of F.H.S., Mrs. Stevenson, their two daughters Betsy and Mary Frances, and their son Bill are all active in the affairs of Schoolfield Methodist Church. Their oldest son Leon, Jr. is a Navy pilot. MRS. L. FRANK HORTON is now teaching her thirtieth year. She was born h d h' h hool at Brownwood High attended in Canyon, Texas. She finis e ig sc , Texas U. and Southern Methodist, and received her B.A. from West Texas College. Mrs. Horton had taught for thirteen years in Amarillo, Texas, before she moved to Millington in 1942. She also taught at E. E. Jeter before coming to F.H.S. Her love is torn between the classes of English in the ninth grade d the seniors Mrs Horton is a senior sponsor and also sponsors the year- an . . book. Her interests are many, especially where F.H.S. is concerned.
