The year started out like most other school years. In August, there was con- fusion among 650 students as they pre- pared for classes. Students were found roaming the halls, trying to find “hidden” class- rooms—the shop area, cafeteria, foot- ball shed, locker rooms, the portable, and the Ag room. Finding lockers, meeting teachers and friends, adjusting to new schedules and homework after a long summer break, will always be remembered. 3

The past year was incredible! It was a bad time to be a legionnaire ... especially if you wanted to attend a convention. CB’ers searched for people with their “ears on.” We had a white Christmas, and a White New Years, and a white February ... Store clerks had a hard time finding places for $2 bills, while consumers had a hard time believing the prices they paid. Severe weather convinced many to store up on groceries before they were stranded again. Another type of flu popped up. A vaccine was discovered for it, but unfortunately some- thing was also discovered about the vaccine. It was linked to a form of temporary paralysis, but the ban on the vaccine was later dropped. Entertainment as usual, played a vital part in the year-from continuing bicentennial celebrations, to newly popular sports, such as racquetball, to ever popu- lar television and movies, such as “Network”, starring Peter Finch. There were bad points, too, in the deaths of old and new favorites, such as Freddie Prinze of “Chico and the Man.” 5
