The Grant contest was the thriller of the year for thc Quaker fans. .lack Scrivens pushed through a swisher from 30 feet out in the last 7 seconds to make the score -1-9 to 447 in favor of Franklin. Some of the top performers for Franklin were hard driving Jack Scrivens, who poured through 249 points during the season and Big Keith Preskey, who was second in scoring with 153 counters. Another regular was Slim Schlewitz, who was an outstanding hackboard man while dropping in 82 points. Rounding out the first five were scrappy Bruce Barrett, whose spirit kept the Quakers in the thick of battles, and newcomer Tom VVilson, whose tal- ents and performance contributed to the team. Fifteen men lettered this year, more than the usual amount, and eleven of them will be returning next year. They are tied with Benson for seventh place with 2 wins and 7 losses. There has been st lot of shifting of positions this spring. Because of Jack Scrivens' had arm, he has been unable to pitch, but he has done a nice job at the hot corner. Speed was added to the outfield when Ray Anderson was switched from catching to outfield chores. Sophomore VVurren VVilliams was selected to fill the catching spot. The duties of first base were taken over by .another peppy sophomore, little Ed Lipscomb. Dick Schlaadt and Gary NVard were again the twosome on double-plays at shortstop and second base, respectively. Pntrolling the cow pastures were Don Halverson, Vtfesley Furth, Dave Neufer, and Noel Reiniger. Rounding out with the pitching staff are Dean Eckelman, Ron Mortenson, Dick I-Ioffmeister, and Bill Cox. Two of the outstanding games on the part of Franklin were the upsets against Cleveland and Roosevelt. Eckle- man did a fine-job of turning back the Indians 5-2. The other game was won by "Blond" Ron Mortensen, edging out the Rough Riders 2-1. , Even though we didn't end up in the first division, the club was always in the thick of the battle giving the other team stiff competition. l 99 lst row-M. The two-mile men managed to take a fourth place in the All-State Hayward event. Although the season is barely under way at this writing, the Quakers showed some promise by whipping Jefferson and Benson in their first triangular meet at Jefferson. 103 -2 s www IRQ?-:Q Q x - . sgf f Q 255 'Q -sf 2, - QMQSRS lf, g ax x PSE 54 'ix ii x E s 1 a 1 E s E 2 5 5 E A Top--Il.
