Winning the last three games showed that the fellows were not as bad as their record indicated. The team was hit hard by injuries early in the year, as five regulars sat out one or more games. Although we had six first-string linemen and one first-string back returning, the jinx caught three of these boys so early in the year that the whole team had to be revamped for the opening game. From the Foxboro game until the Medway game the team kept improving so much that if they played the way they did in the Northbridge and Medway games all year, their record would surely have been better than .500. Boys who represented the class of " 53 " on the team this year were Co-Captains Paul Cataldo and Bob Winglass, Dick Cornetfa, John Danello, Ed Cataldo, Bobby Rappa, Don DeBaggis, Jack Daddario, Don Palladeno, Ev Cataldo, Bob Ribero, and Ray Godin. The Gridiron Club banquet was held in January and, after the fine dinner and after-dinner speeches, the squad presented Coach Pisini with a gift. Following this the trophies for outstanding back and lineman were presented to Bob Winglass and Paul Cataldo, respectively. The runners up were Don Palladeno and Ed Cataldo. RECORD F. H. S. Although handicapped by lack of height, the team, under the able leadership of Co-Captains Ed Cataldo and Bob Vipraio, compiled a very impressive 13 to 5 record. - - - Our team proved it was as good as any team in the Midland League, by defeating every team in this fast moving league. Our seniors, Ev Cataldo, Harvey Nasuti, anc Don DeBaggis, who proved to be the backbone of the club, went along with Co- Captaim Cataldo.-Coach Beane ' s charges showed their true colors, when, after losing three straight games, they got off the floor to defeat the tall Maynard team which had been previously undefeated. This game.will be remembered for many years as our Panthers hit from all over the floor, and literally ran the boastful Maynard five right off the court.-We are all very proud of our team, for they have given Franklin High a fine name, with their courage and sports¬ manship.
