Sabin jlte 674144 o "52 ' 2 1 1 WILLARD A. SABIN Mr. Sabin was born in Locke, New York. He attended school near Manlius, later in Los Angeles, and then in West- bury, New York. He received his high school education in Red Creek, New York. Then, he attended Oswego Normal School, Syracuse University, the Univer- sity of Rochester, and Columbia Univer- sity. From 1925 through 1934, Mr. Sabin taught mathematics at jefferson High School. l-le was principal of Francis Parker School No. 23 from 1954 until 1958 when he came to Franklin as Vice- principal. Mr. Sabin has been a participant and a leader in many local and national edu- cational organizations. Since 1947, when he became our principal, he has devoted nearly all of his time and energy and has given the benefit of his knowledge and experience to Franklin High School. 3?- OPQLUOI' ". . . lhe nexl flying mos! like living nne's life over again seems to be a recolledimz of that life. and to make fha! recollection as durable as ,ros- rible by putting it dozen in writing." As BENIAMIN FRANKLIN wrote these words in the opening pages of his AUTO- BIOGRIAPI-IY, his long life of service to mankind was drawing to a close. He had determined to set down for posterity a brief record of the main events in his life. As we the CLASS OF 1952 write these words in the foreword of our KEY, our brief stay at Franklin High is fast drawing to a close. We have determined to set down for future generations of Franklinites a record of the deeds and activities of our graduating class. 1' 'ii SAM rwrrout l - A I il f In june, 1752, BENIAMIN FRANKLIN attached a metal key to a kitestring during a thunderstorm and proved that lightning is an electrical discharge. This experiment was repeated by famous European scientists be- fore the royalty of the Old World and brought Franklin's many and varied scien- tific researches to the attention of Europc's learned. We have chosen BENjAMlN FRANK- LIN'S AUTOBIOGRAPHY, the theme of our KEY, to express the parallel between Franklin's life and times and our own on this the two hundredth anniversary of the famous experiment' from which our year- book takes its name. Jani an .iafamenf CLASS OF 1952 We, the Senior class of 1952, future taxpayers of Benjamin Franklin High School, the finest and the highest institution of learning this side of South Avenue, being of hollow head and shallow body, under the auspices authorized to vest with us the power of disposing of our prides and glories as we so desire, and appealing to the sagacity of the top brass for the rectitude of our intentions, do hereby de- cree this document to be our last will and testament. After much consideration regarding the disposal of our fortunes, we, the Seniors, shall apportion our common estate thus: To Mr. Sabin, whose generosity, wisdom, and friendliness have aided us in fulfilling our five peril- ous years, we leave the satisfaction of being his first completely graduated class and the sincerest grati tude of the entire Senior class. "Need we say more?" To Mr. Francis we would like to leave a new public address system, but since we cannot, we be- queath unto him something just as dear to his heart-a pamphlet entitled "Making the Best of a Mili- tary Career." To Mr. Maurer and Miss Rizzo, our very patient class advisers, we leave a sentimental feeling, a backache, and the satisfaction of a job finally done. To Mr. Stalker we leave a year's supply of doughnuts and coffee and a hostess apron for his "Breakfast Club." To Mr. Smith we leave-and he must be glad we're going. To Miss Coulton we leave another book entitled, "job Placements for Unemployed Franklinites" by john L. Lewis. To Miss Martens we leave a complete English translation of Caesar's Gallic campaigns along with a free pass to see "Quo Vadis." To Miss Levin we leave a ball and chain for her record book and her paper-weight, a twelve by sixteen full color portrait of her redeemer, George Neubert, and also a portrait of Sandy Shapiro's scalp. To Mr. Iman we leave a mechanical brain to solve his economic exams and to replace Seymour Becker. To Miss Hess we leave thirty bed sheets to be used as togas for the Latin Honor Society. To Mr. Kaplan we leave one slightly used siren, the shrunken head of Don Tettlebach, a book entitled, "Qualitative Analysis of an Aspirin Tablet" by Art Inguaggiato, and also a copy of Eugene Cimino's farewell address. To Mr. Quinn we bequeath a trophy inscribed "To Franklin's champion billiard player." To Mr. Lipson, Mr. Rahtjen, Mr. Chamberlain, and Mr. Clark we leave a year's supply of mustache wax. To Mr. Taylor we leave a secret manual containing the trigonometry exams for the next five years and a sworn statement by Mrs. Morsheimer not to be taken ill again. To Mr. Hosic we leave a box of "Tintair." To Miss Sullivan we leave a contract requiring her to perform in all of the Franklin Day plays and also an award acclaiming her "Belle of the English Department." To Mr. Remington we leave ne.xt year's "hams" to act in the Senior Play and also a book entitled "There's No Business Like Show Business" by Eddie Cantor. - To Miss Callahan we leave a bottle of a very rare gas having a density of five times that of a molecule of helium, a characteristic color of the rainbow, and an insoluble precipitate known as cement. To Mr. Betten we leave a share of the Canadian uranium mines and a set of picks and shovels to be used by a brigade of lunchroom custodians. To Mr. O'Brien we leave a season's pass to "the theatre." To our beloved, one and only Luigi, we leave a new broom with pork hair bristles, and an out- board motor, and an automatic tripper. To next year's Senior class we leave the Senior Council, the Senior Play, the Senior Ball, the Senior Banquet, the remains of the decorations from the last Senior dance, and a slew of miscellaneous head- aches. To the Sophomore class we leave three hundred fifty-one pairs of dirty dungarees to be used for next year's junior Day. To the Freshmen we leave the privilege of becoming Sophomores-wise fools. To the eighth-graders we leave next year's incoming sub-freshmen, and the relief of being superior to someone at last. To the entire student body as a whole, we leave a carload of 2 x 4's and some cement tostrengthen the ceiling of the auditorium and also the corner stone of Franklin High School-"Ando." Last, but far from the least, we bequeath unto all of the Senior homeroom teachers a dozen safety pins, a subscription to diaper service, and five million cuddly, little eighth-graders. Duly witnessed and signed this twenty-sixth day of january, in the year of our Lord, 1952, by the Senior class of Benjamin Franklin High School. The terms of this document are to be administered by Leone, Saperstone, and Passar, Incorporated-Attorneys at Law. 64 wo' SATURDAY EVENING january 26, 1952 TODD UNION UNIVERSITY OF ROCHESTER Q62 " f 9 E I P LJ -1 ,A ff 44" 'Y t 454W " '-- V v ss., 1 Lx. 65 'I M 1 -,,,.-.7 I IQ-0,,l.eC, of f7Le C an of 1952 And now the class of '52 Presents its prophecy to you.
