Sipes j H wsmsf ...Sh- i outhiul artists produce original posters, drawings, designs From paint-pot to printing press, dozens of doubters discovered that they had lots more art talent than they had thought, while the ones who already knew it went on messing around in new mediums, textures, and color tones. Both groups were inspired by the winning entries of four '69ers in the Scholastic Art Con- test. All classes were back on traditional sched- ules, after flirting with flex briefly. School show- cases were kept attractive and up-to-date, class time was devoted to design and construction of sets tor school plays. Sandy Gierman waited while Mr. Sipes brushed off a drawing assignment.

Math employs language skills to master computers Local mathematicians have been getting into the language business as technology makes the computer more and more essential to everyday life. Like an ani- mal, the computer must be fed, and each type must be 'Fed its own particular menu, which is the specialized language that people who feed computers must use. Of course, the Mathematics Department remem- bered its duty to the non-computer students, too, and included in its schedule the usual array of algebra, geometry, trigonometry, calculus, refresher math, and iust plain basic math - even multiplication tables. The department was jubilant when ten of its stu- dents qualified as semi-finalists in the Michigan State Prize Mathematics Competition. Winners were Senior Lesley Bassett, Harold Camp, Dale Chisholm, Mary Gau- thier, Sally Gribble, Bob Joyner, Dorothy Pumo, Chuck Rasmussen, Don Sizemore, and Soph Jerry Thompson. Father Carey's chickens were Fran Smith, Mary Buda, Marilyn Capelli, and Virginia Waymire - first time Math had so many lady teachers. 'ups Feeding time for the computer found Senior Pat Nelson looking over the keyboard on which she would prepare the necessary ingredients.
