into the home stretch, Ken Abel closed the gap between himself and
John Pelliter, no opponent could mar their 'I-2 finish in the mile.
Straining every muscle, .lunior Bob Rogalski reached forward to gain
every inch that he could get. His determination and great effort helped
him reach a new school record in the long lump last year.
Bob Dietz, with his continually improving style, lofted himself over
the crossbar, His consistency lifted him to a third place NWSAA finish
in 1968. Bob looks like the one to beat this year, too,

econd place in league
crowns persistent Wrestlers
Highlighting the wrestling season was Sophomore
Bruce Geier's fourth place finish in the State Meet in 95
pound weight class. Such a record for a Sophomore is
phenomenal, two more years of fine wrestling are
promised. Senior Frank Rekieta also qualified for State.
One of the happier moments came when Franklin
grapplers proved city superiority by defeating Stevenson
and Bentley in a quadrangular meet with Waterford.
Franklin promises to be a Northwest-Suburban power-
house for years to come as many lettermen return. This
year's second place League finish offered a goal,
Victorious again, Forrest Ault was congratulated by Steve Watt and
Robb Leggat as he walked oft the mat. Varsity wrestlers watched as
one of their number battled it out with his opponent. The whole team
did an about-face this year and took second place in League.
Larry Lee labovej rolled back on his foe in hopes of pinning him. Reach!
ing through to grab a leg, Doug Lackey tbelowj outmatched his North
Farmington rival. Coach Kokenakes talked to Varsity wrestlers Frank
Rekieta, a State Meet competitor forftwo years. Frank was one of the
outstanding wrestlers in the area as well as in League. His quality,
plus that of the other varsity wrestlers, helped the team have one of
the best seasons in the history of Franklin competition.
