Bats, hunts, hase runners blend
to capture championship
The Patriot baseball team concluded its 1967-
68 season by capturing Franklin's fourth league
championship. Graduating seniors Denny Hop-
kins, Mike LeBlanc, Dave Paden, and Bill Hell-
stein were named to the NWSAA All League
team and Dennis Fisher received an honorable
mention. After accumulating a 10-6 overall
record, the Franklin fielders were eliminated in
the second round of the Les Anders' tournament,
losing to Northville in the 14th inning.
Returning lettermen, supplemented by new
recruits, formed a promising team for the 1968
season. The new coach, Mr. Ron Hellier, succeed-
ing Mr. Ford, officiated at daily fielding and
batting practices. With the renovation of the
Franklin diamond, home games becarne a real-
ity. Construction crews leveled fields, built up
the mound, and repaired baselines.
Warming up in the bullpen, relief pitcher Gary Miner prepared
to enter the game, A high fastball brushed third baseman
Dennis Fisher back from the plate.

With reconstruction under way cmd with new coaching
leadership, the varsity basketball team toted up '10-8, 5-5
records 'For successful results in general and league competition.
With one varsity season already under their belts, most of
the first-string players were ready for this year's demanding
schedule. Charlie W'iggins averaged nearly 20 points per game
for the season, as he set a new individual game scoring 'record
with 36 points against John Glenn. The rebounding skill of Chris
Lang, Doug Sutton, Jim Salter, and general ball-handling of
Brad Lyons completed the experienced Senior quintet. Bench
strength consisted of Juniors who had considerable experience
on the floor as well in prelude to their final court season.
Sneaking up behind his man, Gary Allan lupper rightj tried to knock the ball away
from him. Gary was one of the bright spots on the bench most of the year. Turn-
ing on the proverbial dime, Charlie Wiggins lbelowj broke down the baseline and
drove in for a two-point play. Brad Lyons 120, rightj laid the ball up on the back-
board as Charlie Wiggins followed in for a possible rebound.
