174 Coach David Nelson 74a Wdmfle Saglea Under the auspicious leadership of Mr. Nelson, Frankfurt's first ye ar of wrestling started. The Nimble E agles started the ye ar with some of the toughest conditioning exercises known. Runs through the park, wind sprints through the halls and three to four minute laps around the school, up and down the stairs were common after school sights. As the season officially started, the squad beganto feel they were in good shape physically. Then two MP's showed up at the invitation of Coach Nelson. The results of that encounter with only two men con- vinced the squad that even more rigorous training was needed. During the season, squad members were chosen to compete with other schools on the basis of wrestle-offs before each match. Those who demonstrated the most improvement represented Frankfurt at the matches. At the finals held in Kaiserslautern, Frankfurt placed sixth out of a field of fifteen contestants. The following schedule will attest to the competition they met during the regular season' Jan . 5 FKFT Munich Jan. 6 FKFT Munich Jan. 12 FKFT Nuremburg Jan. 13 FKFT Nuremburg Feb . 2 FKFT Kais erslautern Feb. 3 FKFT Kaiserslautern Feb. 9 FKFT Augsburg-called Feb. 10 FKFT Augsburg-c all ed Feb. 16 FKFT Mannheim Feb. 23 FKFT Stuttgart Feb. 24 FKFT Stuttgart Manager Jeff Chinn ROW ONE: Left to Right, Jerry Tryham, Ernest Armstrong, Nick Moren, Charles Reedy, Charles Walker, Tim Nadell. Zcw6eZ5czZZ 'faaznawzenl Sports fans flocked to the mecca of basketball at Blozis Hall Saturday for the Tournament. Battling for the Class A Championship title were participants from as far away as England and France. The most prominent Challengers to the Frankfurt Eagles were the Nuremburg Eagles, and eagle feathers flew before the victorious Frankfurt took the title. The walls shook with the roars of the student body, a resounding recognition for the teams as they pounded onto the playing court. The whistle sounded, the ball was tossed into play and the battle for the title began. The ball flashed from one end of the court to the other as first one team then the other caused the basket to vibrate with ringers. The elimination round ended with Frankfurt and Nuremburg scheduled to face each other the following night. That encounter left Frankfurt the USAREUR champion for the third consecutive year, defeating Nuremburg by a score of 75 to 67. 173

Unlike other less-taxing sports, the wrestler must use his energy to capacity during the entire match. Thus, practices are tough, but the boys don't seem to mind, knowing that it's all for the good and glory of the brand new wrestling team of F.H.S.
