f-faeemffdea There will be an assembly during fifth period in the Idle Hour Theater. These words are always welcomed by the students of FHS because they know that another function for the entire student body has been carefully planned with special emphasis placed on origin- ality and interest. As the time for dismissal from homeroom approaches, students gather their books and prepare for the dash to secure front row seats. There are very few stragglers in the rush ftop rightj. Perhaps they are to see a formal induction ceremony for one of FHS's honor clubs, such as Quill and Scroll fsecond rightj. Jeannie Huffman congratulates Steve Blake when he receives his pin while Marsha Taft, Pamella Myers, Carol Wells, Bobbette Melvin, and Irma Watson look on. Or maybe it is to arouse school spirit for USAREUR basketball tournaments combined with the awarding of a free tournament ticket to Shari Mattingly and Mitch Lawall for having the best FHS emblem or beingthe best dressed in Black and Gold fthird righty. Sometimes it is to listen to campaign speeches fbottom righty before an election or even a class meeting such as the one held by the Seniors to discuss a proposed trip. This type is usually very re- laxed, as can be seen by the positions of those in the balcony. fbottom leftj. These enjoyable and informative assemblies add spice to life at FHS.

Zap 2466664 Pep Rallies, an indispensable part ofaschool's athletic success, are held indoors and out during football and basketball seasons. The squad ftopj arrives out of uniform but in tip-top condition. They tramp into the gym accompanied by the Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders and assemble to be scrutinized by the student body as they listen to Mike Rankin. Just outside the school the F,H.S. cheerleaders fsecond, lefty yell 'loud and long' inducing some school spirit with their typical bounciness. Tirelessly they cheer the Eagles on to win any match that they start. Deafening shouts of Come on, Eagles, let's go! are heard as the student body encircles the six cheerleaders fthird, lefty. These spirited girls give their 'all' trying to intensify the enthusiasm of the group. Informal Pep Rallies are held outside and in the main hall, before and after school, to save time. Acompletely engrossed audience fbottom, leftjwatches ademon- stration wrestling match where the arts of this sport are vigorously displayed by the young muscle men. The crowd is oblivious to everything as it concentrates on the match. Cheerleaders are a must in any Pep Rally and these F.H.S.ers are ready for the cue to start fbottom, rightl. They must be hoping that their vivacitywill be transmitted to an expectant throng.
