Editor’s Note: We deeply regret the loss of our dear friend and business manager of the Talon staff, Mel- anie Detrick. Her picture was not available, but we will not for- get the many ads and subscrip- tions she sold to finance our year- book. Once upon a time in a land where new schools were rare, not too many people knew what to do with a yearbook. Several people were chosen to overcome the problem of pub- lishing this book, but only a few actually accomplished the task. A whole month of school was wasted without having a publishing company, money, ads, or staff positions. Out of this state of utter chaos came an editor-in-chief named Alanea Dick. Under her super advisor Rita Hollen and consultant Pat Brakeall, Alanea and the staff got the yearbook underway. After the drawn-out battle of naming the yearbook, Talon was accepted and work began. One evening while working (?), George Poling willingly volunteered his services to as- sist as a senior editor, later to be joined by his faithful com- panion Dennis Milliron. The staff members who did their work in class are to be commended, but special recog- nition should go to the few who spent many nights in the cold dark halls of Frankfort eating and wheeling around on the typing chairs, always with layouts, copies, or pictures in mind. These people were Mag- gie Bean, Renée Davis, Donald Kirk, Pam Long, and Bonnie Wagoner. Our photographers provided us with many great shots, but the Talon, in much distress, was saved by Ruhl’s Studios and an understanding Herff Jones! It was with the help of all these people that we met our deadlines and ended up in a better state than when we started. The End (Thank God) 107
