According to Coach Tim Ricci, “My fourth team here at Frankfort got the most of their ability by working hard and maintaining a good attitude.” He further stated, “This team never did give up throughout the year. They came back with great effort on all their parts in game after game.”
Richard McPhail and Kent Herron were the 1981-82 Co-Captains. The Redbirds finished in the South Seven Conference by winning Fifth.

Under the direction of second year head coach Ron Winter, the 1981 Varsity Rcdbird Wrestling Team was the best team in the nine years that F.C.H.S. has had a wrestling program.
Over the years, the grapplers have developed into very competitive teams. They are in Class “A”, but they wrestler many Class “AA” schools.
This year’s wrestling team was 13-2 in dual meets. They won the Benton Invitational, placed third in the District Meet. Six men went to the Sectional Meet at Mount Olive.
In the Sectional Meet, Dale King and Tony Galbraith placed first. Chuck Gardner and John Moake placed second. Third were Tim Wiley and Tim Vanwey.
The second place finish of Chuck Gardner made him the first wrestler in F.C.H.S. history to advance to the Sectional Meet for the third consecutive year.

REDBIRD NOTES is not a club or an extracurricular activity, but a serious class dedicated to the production of a school function. Lack of funds forced R.B.N. to reduce the number of issues this year. Previously R.B.N. published nine issues; this year only five issues made it to F.C.H.S. classrooms.
REDBIRD NOTES is generally regarded as one of the finest high school papers in Southern Illinois. R.B.N. annually attends Southern Illinois Press Association and competes with other high school papers for journalism awards.

167Volume 68 of the REDB1RD Annual has finally been completed. This was a meticulious but a fun process. It was a combined effort of many individuals. To be frank, we are all glad it’s over, but without the leadership of our advisor, Mrs. Hellen Mary Batts, the successful completion of this book would not have been possible.
The REDBIRD Annual Staff would like to acknowledge the support of the professional people of West Frankfort. They would also like to thank Mr. Larry DeMattei and Mr. Steve Smith of Delmar Studio for their help and co-operation.
This year’s staff was headed by Editor-in-Chief John Robinson. Others seniors were Mike Karoski, Sports Editor; Dan Hall, Advertising Manager; and Chuck Wortman, Football Section.
The REDBIRD Annual extends its appreciation to all who made this yearbook possible.AutographsAutographsAutographsAutographsAutographsAutographsAutographsAutographs
